About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFP 438478 regarding specifications for coaxial cable materials for the Hadron Storage Ring BPM Cryo-Cable Assembly project.
The document addresses vendor exceptions to the original cable material specifications. The government accepts the vendor's proposed use of 304L stainless steel tubing that is welded and drawn (rather than seamless) for the outer conductor, as long as it meets ASTM A269 standards and vacuum requirements in specification section 3.1.3.1. The government also accepts the use of C10200 copper for the lining in addition to the originally specified C10100. Additionally, cable dimensions near the connector are allowed to vary to meet delay-matching requirements, and a cable position tolerance of ±.15 inches using 2D template drawings for verification is specified.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
RFP 438478
1. Paragraph 3.1.2.3.1 (repeated below):
Coaxial Cable Material – The outer conductor shall be a seamless stainless steel of type 316L or 304, per ASTM A269, lined with a seamless oxygen-free copper, C10100, per ASTM B75. The dielectric material shall be silicon dioxide (SiO2). The inner conductor shall be made from oxygen-free copper per ASTM B170.
Vendor Exceptions in red.
Vendor uses an outer conductor made of 304L stainless steel, per ASTM A269, which is welded and drawn (not seamless). The lining is oxygen-free copper, C10100 or C10200, per ASTM B75.
Note: Vendor makes the tubing at our facility, and it meets the requirements of a seamless tubing.
• Some of the dimensions in the cable drawings near the connector should be a reference (i.e. be allowed to vary) to meet the delay-matching requirement. Connector end point locations will be within drawing tolerance.
• Tolerance on the cable position shall be ±.15 inches. Vendor will use 2D template drawings to verify bends and dimensions.
Answer:
An outer conductor using 304L tubing that is welded and drawn, and fabricated per ASTM A269 is acceptable. The cable must meet the Vacuum Requirements in the specification section 3.1.3.1.
Using C10200 for the lining is acceptable.
