About this file
This document is Amendment No. 4 to Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 438478 for HSR BPM Cryo-Cable Assemblies, which will be procured by the Department of Energy Office of Science for installation in the Hadron Storage Ring of the Electron-Ion Collider. The amendment incorporates Attachment A, which provides clarification on questions related to the cable specifications, including acceptance of non-hermetic assemblies, flexible cable sizes, and bending radii. The RFP requires the Cable Assemblies to carry radio frequency electrical signals from the interior vacuum region of the storage ring through the cryostat insulating vacuum. The agency is open to some variations in the cable specifications to help decrease costs, as long as the performance requirements are met.

Attachment A
Clarification Questions and Answers
Dated June 21, 2024
1. At your operating frequency of 3 GHz, our cables are very minimally affected by moisture. Will BNL accept non-hermetic assemblies? This would also help decrease costs.
Yes, as long as the cables can pass the leak rate test indicated in the Spec section 3.1.3.3.
2. Is there flexibility on the cable sizes? Our standard with stainless steel jacket is 0.102” and 0.157”. This would make laser welding, if necessary, easier and thus would further decrease cost.
Yes, a tolerance for the cable diameter (0.090” and 0.141”) in the spec is not indicated. The proposed cable diameter variations are small and would be acceptable.
3. Is BNL willing to accept an increased bending radii on the drawings? This would improve cable electrical performance.
No, BNL requires the bending radii indicated in the drawing with an indicated tolerance of +/- 0.125”. If a vendor would like to propose alternative bend radii, we may consider it.
