ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY CHARISTICS

Construction: Contractor: Kiewit-Turner (KT) Designer:

SOM / H+L / CRA / SAM Award Date: 30 Oct. 15 2015 Current campus includes includes (9) buildings and (3) parking structures 1,195,085 sf. ft.

Planned New Construction: several new bldgs. and systems are in the planning phase for construction in 2019/20 including: PRRPT Facility, Bio Science build out, installation of 3.4 Mw roof top Solar PV systems on all buildings and a Combined Heat and Power Unit CHP.

Scope: The new facility is designed to be LEED certified and designed around ASHREA 90.1, EPAct 2005 and The VA Sustainability Manual 2007, VA Sustainability and Energy Reduction Manual 2010 and compliance with EISA 2007. This compares energy consumption of existing similar buildings to determine Energy Consumption of this facility.

Energy Status: These new buildings are designed to meet LEED requirements and incorporate significant energy efficiency measures to achieve these goals, and include; improved insulation and glazing, shading devices, reduced power and daylighting, evaporative cooling, radiant heating and cooling plants, off peak cooling with energy storage over a one million gallon water storage facility that can use off peak cooling. These systems are designed to meet or exceed ASHREA 90.1 and achieve a 30% Energy Reduction, and Water use reduction by 35%.

All campus buildings provide a white Heat Island Effect Roofing System.

Other campus wide Sustainability initiatives include: Enhanced Commissioning and refrigerant Management, System Measurement and verification. All building use Low Emitting Materials including: Adhesives, Sealants, wood products, flooring systems.

IBS/IBN: Inpatient facility providing 184 beds for patient recovery.

specially designed Air handling unites provide positive air flow CBN/CBC: Provides out patient support CON: This is the hospital center main street Atrium high ceilings.

DAT:

RES: The research facility is an ultra modern design incorporating specially designed high efficient air handlers Providing perfect conditions for animal population as well as a protected environment for Lab Techs.

RES also incorporates Solar hot water panels which helps off sets the cost of heating the facilities hot water for the south campus. . ENC also incorporates Solar hot water panels which helps off sets the cost of heating the facilities hot water for the south campus.

ENC: The Engineering facility includes (4) high performance energy efficient generators providing a total of 8 kw of electric power. (4) high performance boilers with stack economizers and (4 ) Energy efficient chillers. ENC controls the facility DDC system and can monitor and control the campus providing Thermal comfort for patient and staff including Air Handler set backs and evaporative systems. ENC also incorporates Solar hot water panels which helps off sets the cost of heating the facilities hot water for the North campus. Master lighting controls are also operated out of ENC and can provide set backs and lighting schedules. Lighting is also dimmable In each office space using lighting sensors and automatic shut off when not in operation.
