About this file
This is a construction specification section for extruded aluminum canopies as part of the G.V. Montgomery VAMC CLC Residential Neighborhood project in Jackson, Mississippi (Project No. 586-401), dated June 29, 2026, issued as Addendum 01.
The specification requires furnishing and installation of extruded aluminum canopy systems composed of decking, tie rods, posts, and fascia fabricated from aluminum alloy 6063-T6 according to current Mapes brochures. The canopy components must feature either a fluorocarbon finish meeting AAMA 2605 or an anodized finish meeting AAMA 611 (AA-M12C22A41) with chemically etched medium matte coating, Class I Architectural grade, 0.18 mm (7 mils) thick. Color selection will be determined by the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and Architect from the manufacturer's full range, including metallic fluorocarbon options. The decking shall employ interlocking extruded aluminum members with field-applied mechanical fasteners to ensure structural integrity and must be designed as water-tight with proper internal drainage flow. Manufacturers and installers must each demonstrate a minimum of three years of documented experience. All components must be delivered and stored under cover and elevated above grade. The contractor must provide a five-year warranty period for corrective work after Substantial Completion, plus a five-year manufacturer warranty against exterior finish degradation including fading, chalking, or flaking, with provisions for unit and material replacement. Installation must comply strictly with manufacturer shop drawings, with erection scheduled after completion of all concrete, masonry, and roofing work in the area. Applicable reference standards include AAMA CW-10, ASCE 7, ASTM B209, and ASTM B221.
