RESPONSE TO ITEM #49
1. Some over excavation shall be anticipated
2. Quantities of over excavation will be determined by the Geotechnical engineer during inspections and unearthed conditions.
3. Over excavations shall be filled as stated in Geotechnical Report. See References provided below and Geotechnical report for additional information.
Refer to Sheet SJ001 “SHALLOW FOUNDATIONS” Structural Notes section for foundation bearing requirements.
Additional information can also be found in the Geotechnical Report Referenced in “FOUNDATION - GENERAL” Structural Notes section refer to the following Geotechnical Report for additional information.
“FOUNDATION DESIGN IS BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDED IN GEOTECHNICAL
ENGINEERING REPORT NO. 58205106-R1 BY TERRACON CONSULTANTS DATED AUGUST 4,
2020.”
From Geotechnical Report Per Design Parameters Table: “Suitable native very stiff to hard clay soils with hand penetrometer value ≥2.0 tsf, native very loose to medium granular soils that have been redensified as recommended below, or engineered fill or lean concrete extending to suitable native soils” Per footer 3 “Unsuitable or soft soils should be over-excavated and replaced per the recommendations presented in the Earthwork and Foundation Construction Considerations.”
“As noted in Earthwork, the footing excavations should be evaluated under the direction of the Geotechnical Engineer... If unsuitable bearing soils, such as the existing fill and possible fill soils observed at B-1, B-2, B-4, and B-5 to depths of about 3 to 8 feet (944 to 949 feet), are encountered at the base of the planned footing excavation, the excavation should be extended deeper to suitable soils, and the footings could bear directly on these soils at the lower level, or on lean concrete backfill placed in the excavations.” Refer to the geotechnical report for additional illustrated sketches.
