About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the Mental Healthy Safety Improvements project (Project #583-24-201) at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.
The RFI requests contractor responses to three questions: 1) Confirmation that there is electrical work required, including modifications to door frames, walls, and nurse call buttons, 2) A request for the existing reflected ceiling plan, and 3) Details on the existing nurse call system that the contractor must be compatible with. The RFI responses indicate that electrical work is required, provide the requested ceiling plan, and detail the existing nurse call system including a moisture-resistant version required for the shower area. The contractor is also required to perform a programming change after installation.
The related federal contract opportunity is for the installation of mental health safety improvements including new flooring, wall protection, handrails, paint/patching, acoustical ceiling tiles, and ligature-resistant plumbing fixtures. The work is required to bring the inpatient mental health unit into compliance with the Mental Health Environment of Care Checklist. The solicitation number is 36C25024B0040_1 and the agency is the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network 10.

Q1: There is no mention of electrical work on this project - no specs or plans. Please confirm there is no electrical work on this project.
Q2: At the site visit it was discussed with the COR that existing drawings of the acoustical ceilings could be provided with the request of an RFI. As directed, I am requesting the reflective ceiling panel plan of the existing area.
Q3: What is the existing nurse call system? If we are to install new nurse call stations compatabile with the existing system we need to know the existing system.
REPLY: RFI’s will be answered by amendment(s) issued to SAM.gov.
A1: There will be electrical work required on this project as required to modify the door frames and walls in the seclusion/restraint room to include rerouting existing conduit and wire as necessary, installing additional nurse call buttons, and wiring new sensor activated faucets. The contractor is responsible for providing electrical work as necessary to meet all items as detailed in the scope of work.
A2: See attached reflected ceiling plan and arch finishes plan from previous project.
A3: See attached TDS for the nurse call pushbutton station currently in use. A moisture-resistant version will be required in the patient shower area.
Note: a contractor must perform a programming change after the physical install is complete. The current contractor supporting the system is SWC.
