36C24919R0012 P0008 Amendment 8
1.) We could quote wall panels as well to save money, but the wall sheathing would have to be applied vertically for this to be possible, would this be acceptable?
Answer: No. See response for question #2 below.
2.) If wall panels are acceptable with vertical sheathing would OSB be an acceptable substitute for plywood? ( we have had so many delamination issues with plywood that we try to avoid it when possible).
Answer: No. OSB is not acceptable. Install in accordance to plans & specifications.
3.) On sheet CS101 there is a retaining wall with a rail depicted and the keynote 12 refers you to the structural drawings. The structural drawing has a detail 9/S-500 and it refers one to the architectural drawings. We cannot find any information for the construction of this rail in the drawings or the specifications. Can you provide a design for the metal railing above the retaining wall, i.e., material, diameter, verticals o.c., 2 rail system?
Answer: Fabricate 1-1/2 " Diameter steel pipe railings and posts with welded joints. In addition to the dead load design, railing assembly to support live load of 200 pounds per lineal foot applied laterally to rail and 500 pounds point load applied anywhere vertically to top of rail. All rail piping, components and fittings shall be hot-dipped galvanized G-90.7.
Splice Connectors to be steel welding collars.
Apply two (2) coats of MPI 119 (Exterior Latex, High Gloss (acrylic) to galvanized metal.
Finish color is white, submit color charts to VA COR and architect for selection. Install top of horizontal railing at 3’-6” and intermediate horizontal railing at 1’-9” above finish grade or sidewalk. Space posts for railings not over 6’-0” maximum on centers between end posts.
Weld fixed posts to galvanized, flange plate, and anchors to concrete retaining wall with expansion anchors. Provide anchors and flange plates required for connecting railings to structure. Anchor railing to structure with expansion anchors. Install components plumb and level, accurately fitted, free from distortion or defects. Shim and grout anchor plates as required.
4.) Refer to Dwg AE601 Door Schedule for exterior doors lists Door Hardware types (30
– 34) that not included in Spec Section 08 71 00 or 08 71 01 (these end at set #24 and only include the interior doors hardware sets). Can you provide the missing exterior door hardware sets ?
Answer: specification section included in this Amendment 8
5.) Refer to Spec 08 71 13.11 auto Door Operators (ADO) and the question above. Are there any auto door operators on this project? They are not listed on any door hardware schedule and may be missing along with the exterior door hardware sets (#30 thru #34)?
Answer: See response above

7 ) To what building should the new “dedicated BAS network” from the Continuing Care Facility be connected?
Answer: Same as above
8.) The Diagram show a detail with 300 pair telephone cable, 3-12 strand fiber & 2-14/2 shielded cable in a 4” conduit. The Sheet Key Note No. 10, call for a 50 pair telephone cable, 1-12 strand fiber & 2-14/2 shielded cable in a 4” conduit. As well, on Sheet TS102, the details on the sheet do not match note 8.
