About this file
This document is a technical specification section (Section 02506) from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for concrete curb and curb walls construction. The specification provides comprehensive guidelines for contractors performing concrete curbing work, detailing requirements for materials, construction methods, and quality standards. Contractors are expected to furnish all necessary materials, equipment, labor, and supervision to construct curved or straight concrete curbing at specified locations, following PennDOT Publication 408 specifications and design drawings RC-64M and RC-67M.
The technical specification mandates the use of air-entrained (6%) PennDOT Class AA concrete with a compressive strength of 3,750 p.s.i., and provides detailed instructions for subgrade preparation, formwork, joint placement, concrete pouring, finishing, and curing processes. Key technical requirements include using 3/4-inch expansion joint filler, creating contraction joints at specific intervals, protecting and curing concrete for a minimum of 72 hours, and ensuring all work meets PennDOT engineering standards. The specification also requires contractors to repair or replace any defects at their own expense to the Engineer's satisfaction, emphasizing quality control and adherence to established construction standards.
