About this file
This document is a Question and Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) Response file addressing technical specifications for air compressor and surge tank components. The questions and responses focus on the acceptability of a Charlatte "bladder-type" surge tank, with BOR indicating that bladder-type air chambers are not acceptable. The technical details include specification references (Section 33 16 14 and Drawings 1695-D-62271 through 1695-D-62282), surge tank operating pressure requirements, and compressor performance specifications. Key technical clarifications include: the surge tank's steady-state operating pressure of 140 psi is below the maximum operating pressure of 175 psi, and the compressor's low flow rate of 15-20 CFM is considered acceptable since it allows for a total runtime of 5.25 to 7 hours, which meets the site's requirement of filling within 8 hours.

Question BOR Response Would the Charlatte “bladder-type” surge tank be acceptable? Bladder-type air chambers are not acceptable.
Please provide volume, pressure rating, orientation, outlet size, diameter of Air Chambers Details of air chamber design are listed in specification Section 33 16 14, and on specification Drawings 1695-D-62271 through 1695-D-62282.
Please review Air Compressor requirements: if steady state operating pressure of the surge tanks will be 140psi will the compressor discharge pressure of 120psi be functional?
140 psi still comes in below the maximum operating pressure of the basis of design unit, which is 175 psi.
Will compressor low rate of 15 to 20CFM be sufficient for the operation, seems VERY low?
Sites generally have very broad requirements for fill time, as long as it comes in under 8 hours. 15-20 cfm means a total runtime of 5.25 to 7 hours.
