About this file

This document contains geological drawings, exploration data, and test results related to the Clear Creek Dam Fish Passage Facility project in the Yakima River region of Washington state. The drawings provide location maps, geologic legends and explanations, as well as profiles and exploration details of the project site, including drill hole and test pit data. The supplementary geological data includes rock physical properties testing, indirect tensile strength testing, point load index testing, uniaxial strength testing, and direct shear testing. Additionally, soil physical properties and one-dimensional consolidation test data are provided. This information is intended to inform the design and construction of the proposed fish passage facility at the Clear Creek Dam as part of the Yakima River project.

The related federal contract opportunity solicits for the design and construction of the Clear Creek Dam Fish Passage Facility in fiscal year 2024, with an anticipated award in fiscal year 2025. The Bureau of Reclamation, a civilian agency under the Department of the Interior, is managing this opportunity. Interested offerors must submit correspondence to the specified Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer.

Miscellaneous Fill:

The miscellaneous fill was sourced from nearby Tieton River fluvial deposits and was placed as backfill and road surface during dam construction and rehabilitation to allow equipment access to the crest and toe of the dam. It is comprised of sand, gravel, and silt. This unit was encountered in all three drill holes and in three test pits (TP-20-1, TP-20-2, and TP-20-3).

Quaternary Colluvium:

The Quaternary Colluvium deposits consist of sand, silt, gravel, and cobbles of various sizes and sorting. This material is primarily slope wash that has been deposited in various thicknesses on the slopes above Clear Creek.

Pre-Tertiary Russel Ranch Metavolcanic Rock:

The Russel Ranch metavolcanic rock is dark gray to dark red to green and massive, with no visible foliation. The rock is generally aphanitic, with extensive calcite stringers and blebs occurring within the body of the rock along joint and fracture surfaces. It is intermediately metamorphosed and much of the rock is altered, containing minor amounts of serpentine and epidote. Quartz veining is also identified at various times throughout, being more prominent at depth. This geologic unit was encountered in all three drill holes and in all six test pits during 2020 explorations. Observed RQD values ranged from 16% to 69% with an average of 51%. Fracture densities ranged from slightly to moderately fractured (FD3 to FD6), on average moderately fractured (FD5).

8.6 0 0 Pre-tertiary Metavolcanic Rock, pTmv

The bedrock foundation of Clear Creek

Dam has been classified as an intermediately metamorphosed basic volcanic rock constituent of the pre-tertiary

Russel Ranch Formation. Much of the rock is altered, and contains minor amounts of serpentine and epidote.

Calcite stringers and blebs occur within the body of the rock along joint and fracture surfaces. Quartz veining is also identified at various times throughout, being more prominent at depth. The rock is generally moderately hard to hard

(H4-H3), slightly rough (R4), and ranges from dark gray to red to green throughout.

The rock is massive with no visible foliation and is generally moderately to intensely weathered (W5-W6).
