About this file
This document is an amendment to a solicitation for the Phantom Ranch Wastewater Treatment Plant Short Term Improvements project located at Grand Canyon National Park. The amendment provides responses to questions from prospective offerors. It clarifies that the "biomass" that must be kept alive refers to the mixture of water and solids known as activated sludge in the aeration tank. It also explains that not all material in the tank will have been screened previously, so it must all pass through the new screen as specified. The amendment includes a subcontracting percentage worksheet as an attachment. It confirms that CPAR evaluations are an acceptable alternative to past performance questionnaires for proposal submission. No key trades are required to be specified for this project.

RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS FROM PROSPECTIVE OFFERORS
2. The specifications require the following during retrofit of the Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge Equipment –
Section 01 31 00-1.11.E.2.h.3) requires the Contractor to feed process air to the temporary storage tank to keep the biomass alive at a minimum dissolved oxygen concentration of 1 mg/L.
Section 01 31 00-1.11.E.2.h.5) states the Contractor shall screen biomass from existing aeration tank through the new influent screen prior to returning to the retrofit aeration tank.
o Please clarify the Engineers definition of “biomass” to be kept alive.
o Please clarify the Engineers definition and intent of “Screen Biomass” from the existing aeration tank through the new screen prior to returning the contents to the aeration tank. It is unclear why the material needs to be processed back through the new screen a second time.
Response: The material in the aeration tank is a mixture of water and solids known as activated sludge. This mixture is the “biomass”. The biomass requires continuous aeration to keep the organisms contained in the biomass alive and active. Not all the material in the tank will have gone through the new screen a first time. The material shall be screened as specified in 01 31 00- 1.11.E.2.h.5).
