KATM 238414 Amendment 8 Information dated 06/16/2021
The following information is a distribution of Final Questions with associated Responses received after the issuance of Amendment 7 dated 06/09/2021; the proposal due date remains at 06/17/2021:
Question 1: Can herbicide Treated Sand Material be imported from outside source?
Response 1: Sand Liner Filter material imported from source outside the Park is not approved.
Question 2: Will best effort sand liner materials with similar, but not exact gradations, be acceptable?
Response 2: Sand Liner Filter material may also be sourced and produced from the Wastewater Treatment Pond project site (Mile 1.8 Pit Site) in addition to Mile 5 Pit. Results from the Geotechnical Investigation Report, dated August 2020, indicate that in-situ soils approximately 5’ - 7.5’ below ground surface are predominantly sands with minimal fines content (0 – 3%). Soils from Mile 1.8 Pit Site, which are processed and screened over the No. 4 (US Sieve Numbers), are anticipated to satisfy either Sand Liner Filter Standard 1 or Standard 2 as specified in Section 02200. Should in-field gradation results deviate from Standard 1 and/or Standard 2 as specified, “Best Effort” Sand Liner Filter material testing results shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer with a formal Deviation Request for review and approval. All Sand Liner Filter material shall meet the Standard 1 and Standard 2 specified requirements for less than 5% of the total dry weight percentage passing the No. 200 Standard U.S. Sieve. Sand Liner Filter material placement work shall not commence until review and approval has been issued by the Contracting Officer.
