1.1-1.2 What the Region Consumes and Produces This is a touchscreen interactive. When the visitor approaches, they will be greeted with an attract screen. Once they are engaged the visitor can select from a menu of what the region produces or what the region consumes.

As you select the different products it shows where in the region the product either comes from, is consumed, or a combination of both. The purpose is to show that almost everything that moves through the Seaway touches you, the visitor, in some way. There are two interactives with the same program. There will be between 10-15 products in each category. Content and software are original.

1.6 Map of the Seaway

As you enter the map room in the Visitor Center you notice a large map of the St.

Lawrence/Massena section of the Seaway. To the right is a large wall that is covered with a map of the entire Seaway. As you approach the wall the video is triggered by a touch of a button. The video experience explains the breadth of the entire Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System. The exhibit includes a map of the region from the Atlantic Ocean to Superior Duluth. Using a combination of LED lights, backlit areas of the map and video, the map explains the importance and the magnitude of the cargo it moves from the region to the world. By using backlit technology, we will show that a quarter of the population of the US and half the Canadian population live within easy reach of the Seaway. They produce and consume the cargo that move on these ships. It will discuss how the Seaway is jointly managed by the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and The St. Lawrence Management Corporation. The display wall will have a glass surface with graphics printed on the back surface. A 65” 4k video monitor will be in the center of the map wall. When the video is not playing the monitor’s screen will complete the map. Directional speakers will be placed in the ceiling overhead to limit the sound within the space. Length of the film should be no longer than 3 minutes. A combination of existing footage and new shoot should be about 50/50.

2.1.1 Captain Your Own Ship

A realistic hands-on simulator (hardware, software/console, 3 monitors, steamship wheel, sensory liquid tiles (wet floor https://sensoryone.com/ interactive-floor-wall-panels/) and content) that provides an experience of navigating a vessel in the rough conditions on the St. Lawrence before the Seaway was built. Take the wheel of a steam ship and experience a 3D realistic handling of the rapids. Simple and intuitive interface for easy learning and operation. Strong architecture, materials, and fabrication will allow for the highest quality of durability as well as both visual and interactive realism. 2-3 minute experience.

2.1 How it All Began

This is a looping video showing construction clips of the building of the Seaway. Video should be 90 seconds in length and use archival footage.

2.3 Building the St. Lawrence Seaway

Construction footage. This is a menu driven video experience to see different types of work building the Seaway. This will be archival clips without sound each approximately 60 sec each. There will be a total of 5 categories:

1. Blasting and moving the land

2. Building the locks

3. Building the dykes and coffer dams

4. Dredging

5. Building the power plants

2.6 Building the Seaway

This is touchscreen that allows you to pick a spot on a map and see a short time lapse of that spot being worked on over a years’ time. There will be 10 locations. Ap-proximately 15 still images (per location) will need to be adjusted to enable a morph from image to image to create the time lapse.

3.1 How a Lock Works

Video mapping on a white model with moving mechanical parts to illustrate how a lock works.

3.2 Captain Your Own Ship into a Lock

A realistic hands-on simulator (hardware, software /console, 3 monitors, ships wheel, and content) that provides an experience of navigating a vessel into the Eisenhower Lock. Take the wheel of a ship and experience a 3D realistic handling of getting the ship safely into the lock without hitting the walls. Simple and intui-tive interface for easy learning and operation. Strong architecture, materials, and fabrication will allow for the highest quality of durability as well as both visual and interactive realism. 2-3 minute experience.

4.0 The Opening of the Seaway

This is a video of the opening ceremony with clips from President Eisenhower and Queen Elizabeth. This is archival footage that will need editing with sound of a short portion of the Queen’s speech. 90 sec in length.

4.1 Akwesasne Slide Show

This is a looping slideshow of images provided by the Akwesasne Tribe.

Estimate 40-50 images with minor touchup.

4.2 Before the Seaway

This is a sliding magnifying glass that reveals a detailed closeup of the St. Lawrence Seaway profile from the late 1800s.

5.0 Weather

We are currently producing a time lapse video of the canal below the Eisenhower Lock. This video will need to be used as a spin interactive.

Video supplied will be 12 shots a day for 13 months. Contractor to edit footage and incorporate spin controls.

5.1 AIS Technology

This is the application Marine Traffic or similar. It will be run on a live touchscreen.

The App will need to be run on the Internet (locked out so it can only be used for the app). The settings will also need to be disabled so we can control the experience.

We do want people to see the ships of the world and especially in the Seaway. The incoming visitor will be attracted to the interactive feature by an attract screen after the previous visitor leaves the experience; the location in the App needs to reset to the Seaway.

5.2 Managing the Seaway/Hands Free Mooring

This is an existing video that needs some editing. Existing footage is 4 min would like to cut to 2 – 2.5 min.

5.2 Managing the Seaway/Hands Free Mooring

Suction Interactive. A vacuum pad simulates the suction power of the HFM system.

Silhouetted shapes will be placed on the holes by visitors and will be held there by the power of suction.

Eisenhower Lock Visitor Center - Media and Interactive Plan

5.3 Navigating the seaway

Two flip books, one green one red of trivia (Questions and Answers) about the language of buoys and their importance in navigation and safety on the Seaway.

5.4 Crane Interactive. How to load a ship correctly

Mock model of container ship with blocks of varying weights to load on the ship via a claw mechanism. Unsuccessfully distributed weight will cause the blocks to fall off.

5.6 What do Ships Carry

The visitor will move an “X-ray monitor” along a track stopping at the bow of each of the four (4) different types of ships. The x-ray monitor will allow the visitor to see the interior of each ship and what it is carrying and how they differ. The ships rep-resented will be of the Domestic Fleet: Lake Vessel transporting dry cargo (self-un-loaders); and the International Fleet: Tankers (petroleum, liquid), Salties (dry bulk cargoes, steel), Grain, and Breakbulk (windmill blades). At each ship the screen will show a cross section of the hold of that ship. By touching a button, on the screen, the ship will rotate to show the cross section of the ship length wise. The screen will allow the visitor to zoom in on different parts of the ship to see more detail.

5.7 Cargo Knowledge

Clear tubes from floor to ceiling are false filled with cargo carried on the Seaway (tube within a tube with the material only in gap between the tubes). Slider doors to reveal: Can you guess what each cargo is? Flip books: How much does it weigh?

How many tubes it would take to match the weight a typical shipment is?

5.7 Compare and contrast cargo

This is a looping slide show of ships, and their cargo, with the key information being a “Data” slide of the tonnage of all the different types of cargos that is kept current each year. Past years could also be included here. 15-20 images with “Data” slide every 5 images. It must be able to be updated by owner.

5.7 Compare and contrast cargo

Turn the wheel and observe “cargo” being lifted by conveyer and scoops to the top where it is loaded onto a truck that cannot handle the load; it overflows, and “cargo” falls into rail cars that cannot handle the load; they overflow, and “cargo” falls into ship that handles the load. “Cargo flows out the bottom of the ship back onto conveyer belt to repeat.

5.7 Compare and contrast cargo

Monitor with listing of products that move through Seaway - changeable graphics.

7.0 Theatre

This is a small theater that has a 82” video monitor mounted in a bezel to the wall.

Connected to the bezel will be touchpad that will allow the visitor to select a video to watch. The Seaway currently has 4 videos of varying length that they would like the visitor to have the option to watch. As an option we would like a separate cost to produce a 7-8 minute video on the GLS St. Lawrence Seaway. We would anticipate using 50-70% original footage and 30%-50% B roll or archival. Playback will be by a BrightSign player.
