About this opportunity

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is seeking grant applications for the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Grant Program, with a specific focus on Marion County and the City of Salem. The primary objective is to fund projects that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of LGBTQ2SIA+ student needs and have the potential to develop exemplary programs aligned with the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Plan. Eligible applicants must propose collaborative practices addressing strategies outlined in the plan, with project activities targeting educational and mental health support for LGBTQ2SIA+ students from early childhood through post-secondary education. The grant requires detailed project descriptions including community and student engagement strategies, proposed activities, evaluation plans, and alignment with statutory strategies. Evaluation criteria will assess applicants across multiple dimensions, including community overview, regional focus, partnerships, project description, and budget, with a total possible score of 100 points. The application deadline is December 7, 2022, with the grant period running from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023.

Eligible applicants are restricted to specific organizational types, including community-based organizations, culturally specific organizations, early learning hubs, school districts, education service districts, public charter schools, tribal governments, and post-secondary institutions. The ODE will ensure regional representation by awarding at least one grant in each of the five state regions: Northwest, Southwest, Metro, Central, and East. Indirect and administrative costs are capped at 5% for school districts, education service districts, and post-secondary institutions, and 15% for community-based and culturally specific organizations. The anticipated grant award ranges up to $200,000 per recipient, with grantees potentially eligible to request up to 25% of their first-year award in advance upon executing the agreement. Additional fund releases will be contingent upon approval of narrative and expenditure reports. Applicants must also demonstrate compliance with various insurance requirements and state and federal regulations, and provide certification of non-discrimination, proper wage practices, and absence of false claims.
