SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS
SECTION 014563
SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This section includes requirements for seismic design loads for the structure, equipment and non-structural elements.
B. Equipment and non-structural elements shall comply with the requirements of the 2006 International Building Code. Suppliers of equipment, assemblies, and systems shall be responsible for proper design and for furnishing adequate proof of proper design to resist the effects of earthquake motions determined by the Building Code and the design data indicated in this Section.
C. Equipment and items incorporated in the Project shall be built and installed to resist vertical loads and lateral forces stated in the design data and to comply with requirements of the Building Code.
D. Pieces of equipment that are constructed so that interior items are concealed, as may be the case with (non-inclusive) transformers, vacuum systems, pumps, HVAC units, and other mechanical and miscellaneous equipment, shall be installed, braced and anchored to meet the requirements of earthquake motions determined by the Building Code.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. To provide adequate information to the Architect/Engineer for proper review of equipment and non-structural attachment, submit the following information with shop drawings and product data:
1. Certificate from manufacturers stating that items furnished by them will maintain unit integrity by resisting lateral forces using appropriate code required coefficients.
a. The evidence of compliance shall be based on actual shake table tests, three dimensional shock tests, by an analytical method using dynamic characteristics and forces, by the use of historical data, or by more rigorous analysis.
2. Dimensions and details of each piece of equipment, weight of each piece, and its approximate center of gravity.
3. Size and dimensions of supporting assembly structures and the identification of each of its members including secondary elements used as stiffeners and connectors.
4. Calculations signed by an Engineer licensed, in the project state, to indicate the adequacy of the elements to resist the code mandated vertical loads and lateral forces.
B. Provide shop drawings and details for all equipment where explicit anchorage details or guidelines have been shown or referenced in the Contract Documents.
1.3 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. Substitutions to the attachment details contained within the Contract Documents shall be prepared, signed and sealed by an engineer licensed in the state of the Project, with calculations submitted in accordance with Section 016000 Product Requirements.

SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS
1.4 EARTHQUAKE LOADS
A. General: This project is designed for Seismic Use Group IV occupancy and shall be constructed to resist the effects of earthquake motions determined in accordance with the International Building Code, 2012, edition, and the following:
1. Seismic Design Category: D.
2. Site Class: D.
3. Seismic Importance Factor: 1.5.
1.5 POSSIBLE BACK CHARGES TO CONTRACTOR
A. If submittals for equipment and non-structural elements do not contain the data required, they will be returned without action for resubmission with required data. If the submittals are returned to Architect/Engineer with incomplete or insufficient data, which may cause extra work to the Architect/Engineer or his consultants, the Owner has the option to obtain reimbursement from the Contractor for costs incurred by the Owner for the Architect/Engineer's services and expenses
