ASBESTOS
This asbestos survey determined that there were two types of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) present, in the areas within the scope of work for this project, at the time of this building inspection.
The asbestos-containing materials are summarized as follows:
SUMMARY OF ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIALS
FORT SAM HOUSTON - BUILDING 615
ASBESTOS-CONTAINING GENERAL LOCATION APPROXIMATE
MATERIAL QUANTITY
HA-26 - Category II Non- All exterior single and double Approx. 330 linear feet total Friable Exterior Door Caulking doors
Material
HA-33 - Category I Non-Friable Closet under stairwell in Approx. 65 square feet 12' x 12' Gray Mottled Floor transition area
Tile with Black Mastic Adhesive
This building is regulated under the following federal asbestos regulations:
40 CFR 61, Subpart M (Federal Asbestos NESHAP)
29 CFR 1926.1101 (Federal OSHA Construction Industry Standard)
Under these statutes, a building owner is required to abate (remove) all regulated ACM prior to performing demolition or renovation (including planned abatement activities) which might disturb asbestos materials. Regulated ACM (RACM) is defined by NESHAP to be "(a) friable asbestos material, (b) Category I non-friable A CM that has become friable, ( c) Category I non-friable A CM that will be or has been subjected to sanding, grinding, cutting, or abrading, or (d) Category II non friable A CM that has a high probability of becoming or has become crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by the forces expected to act on the material in the course of demolition or renovation operations regulated by NESHAP".
None of the above listed Homogeneous Areas are considered to be RACM in their present condition (at the time this survey was conducted). However, if any of the above asbestos containing materials could potentially be disturbed during renovation or demolition work that may occur at this facility, such materials must first be abated (removed and disposed) by trained and licensed personnel, performing according to a project design prepared by accredited personnel. A Notice of Abatement/ Demolition is required to be submitted to the appropriate NESHAP designee at least 10 working days prior to the start of asbestos abatement if the combined quantity of RACM abatement exceeds 160 square feet and/or 260 linear feet.
