Natomas Reach A Sacramento, CA
Introduction
This Report consist of a site visit to Swallows Nest Country Club and I-80 Bridge at Garden Highway, Sacramento California. The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Sacramento District conducted a site visit to survey two ponds located at Swallows Nest Country Club, Greta’s pond and Nest pond and the I-80 Bridge at Garden Highway, see Appendix for maps, dimensions and pictures. Brian Sauer and Richard Harvey conducted the site visit from USACE 1 February 2018.
Swallows Nest Country Club
During the site to Swallows Nest Country Club Rick Webb, the chair for Swallows Nest Homeowners
Association Design Review Committee, escorted us around to the two ponds, Greta’s pond and Nest pond, to complete the survey. Rick Webb provided us with a small aluminum boat and paddles to aid in surveying the bottom depth of the ponds.
Greta’s Pond
Greta’s pond dimensions were measured using a surveyors measuring wheel and are 220’ length by 60’ width. The depth of the pond was measured using a fiberglass surveying grade/ level rod, see Appendix for map with depth and location readings. There are several structural features around the pond that can be seen on the map in Appendix. South East of the pond located on the other side of a fence is a well that supplies water to
Greta’s pond, it is approximately 115’ south of the pond. The well inlet to the pond is approximately 45’ west of the east side of the pond on the south shore. The well water to the pond runs on a float system that fills the pond when the water gets low and using a concrete weir located on the North West shore of the pond keeps the pond at a consistent level. Rick informed us that Greta’s pond is about a foot below the normal water level due to the float system being a little off center that will be fixed soon. The slope of the side of the pond was measured at on the south side of the pond and had a 5’ Run and 2’ Rise, with the water elevation being 2’ below the ground surface elevation. This pond is only for ascetics.
Nest Pond
Nest pond dimensions were measured using a surveyors measuring wheel and are located on the map in
Appendix. The depth of the pond was measured using a fiberglass surveying grade/ level rod, see Appendix for map with depth and location readings. There are several structural features around the pond that can be seen on the map in Appendix. The well that supplies Greta’s pond also supplies Nest pond. The well inlet to the pond is located on the East shore of the pond. The well water to the pond runs on a float system that fills the pond when the water gets low and using a concrete weir located on the North West shore of the pond keeps the pond at a consistent level. The slope of the side of the pond was measured at on the south side of the pond and had a 10’
Run and 3’ Rise, with the water elevation being 3’ below the ground surface elevation. This pond is used as
Storm water Management Basin to catch runoff from the community to the west.
