About this file
This document is a Shop Work Instruction (SWI) for Bradley Fighting Vehicle Systems DC Motors (12292401 Series), specifically detailing testing procedures for DC motors used in military vehicle systems. The instruction provides comprehensive guidelines for motor testing using specific test consoles (STE 06074 and 899E042), including detailed setup procedures, safety warnings, and operational steps for motor evaluation. Key testing requirements include initial console setup, cable and coupling installation, motor operation testing, and rotation direction verification, with strict cautions about personnel safety and potential equipment damage during the testing process. The document includes multiple tables and diagrams illustrating equipment configuration and control panel settings, and emphasizes precise control positioning and measurement techniques for assessing motor performance.

WP 002 - CLEANING
WP 002-1
Taken from DMWR 9-2350-284-2-1, dated March 2007, General Overhaul Information
(WP 004)
8. Cleaning.
a. General: The procedures for cleaning will generally apply to the turret and turret components. Specific parts or components that require peculiar cleaning procedures will be covered in the paragraph relating to that step.
Caution must be exercised at all times during the cleaning operations to avoid personnel injury, as well as damage to items being cleaned.
b. All parts must be thoroughly cleaned and kept clean through the overhaul process.
CAUTION
Establish proper controls or identification to maintain relationship of matched parts.
Protection of mating surfaces is important during cleaning to prevent damage or marring of critical areas.
9. Cleaning Methods. Any of the following processes or combination of processes may clean items. Ensure that the method(s) chosen will not damage the item(s) being cleaned.
Degreasing solvent is flammable. Do not use solvent near an open flame. A fire extinguisher will be kept in the immediate area when solvent is used. Solvent will be used only in open or well-ventilated areas. Failure to provide proper ventilation may result in injury to personnel.
a. Electro cleaning Process. Immerse item in cleaning solution so that item being cleaned becomes an element of an electrochemical cell. Follow with rinse in clean water 180°F (82°C).
b. Emulsion Cleaning Process. Subject item to a pressure spray of emulsion cleaners or immerse in emulsion solvent. Immerse or spray with clean water above 180°F (82°C) to rinse.
c. Steam Cleaning Process. Subject item to steam or steam mixed with cleaning compound. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
WP 002 - CLEANING
WP 002-2
Unauthorized use of acetone can be extremely hazardous. Use only in well ventilated areas. Follow specified shop safety practices at all times.
d. Acetone Cleaning Process. Immerse the item in acetone. Rinse in clean water or solvent.
CAUTION
Items with machined or threaded surfaces requiring blasting with garnet will have machined surfaces covered with protective tape prior to blasting.
e. Abrasive Cleaning. Items may be subjected to abrasive blasting to remove paint, rust, and corrosion provided the surface of metal is not peened by the process or surface defects are not sealed or contaminated with the abrasive material. Any number of materials may be used for abrasive blasting:
(1) 30-50 Grit Garnet: Normally used on large items, such as turret, hulls, etc.
(2) 80 Grit Garnet: Normally used on light metal items, such as roadwheels, access doors, etc.
(3) Walnut Shells: Normally used on items with threaded or machined surfaces.
(4) Steel Shot: Used on steel items such as sprockets, idler wheels, torsion bars, bolt on armor, etc.
f. Hand Preparation: In lieu of abrasive blasting, hand preparation of metal surfaces with emery cloth, sandpaper, wire brush, metal scrapers, etc., may be used to remove paint, rust, corrosion, and dirt.
