About this file

This is a bridge inspection report dated August 21, 2023, for the Thomas Creek Bridge (Structure No. 061406000001011) located in the Umatilla National Forest at milepost 4.3120 on Route 3200000 in Umatilla County, Oregon.

The report details a routine inspection of a timber bridge built in 1958, consisting of 3 main spans with glulam girders, naillam cantilever deck, and concrete piers. The bridge is rated in fair condition with several issues noted: exposed pier footings (though not undermined), fill sloughing at both end walls, and checking in all girders. The bridge has a roadway width of 14.0 feet, deck width of 15.80 feet, and total length of 48.5 feet. Recommended work items include routine bridge inspection every 2 years, replacing/repairing steel running planks (40 SF), brush removal around approaches, upgrading railing to MASH standard curbs (97 LF), adding riprap to stabilize footing scour (20 CY), and replacing missing bridge name sign. The structure's current load rating allows for HS20-44 loading at 48 tons operating capacity, with no posting restrictions required.

BOB pier footing exposed but not undermined, probably from 2020 high flows that washed out road. Riprap protection needs to be added.

EOB endwalls have fill sloughing at both ends.

Remarks

Road closed at SF Umatilla #2 and there are serveral road washouts between #2 and #3 so hiked to SF Umatilla #2 and Thomas Creek for inspections. No stream profile because didn't want to carry rod and too breezy for tape.
