About this file

This is a bridge inspection report for the South Fork Umatilla #3 Bridge (Structure No. 061406000001010) located in the Umatilla National Forest, conducted on August 21, 2023. The inspection report documents a routine inspection of a single-lane timber bridge with glulam girders and naillam cantilever deck, built in 1958 and spanning the South Fork Umatilla River at milepost 4.0160 on Route 3200000.

The inspection found the bridge in fair overall condition with several issues requiring attention, including: pre-1970 glulam construction needing new load rating, damage to object markers (up to 70 bullet holes) with missing markers at end of bridge, longitudinal checks in exterior girders, and vegetation requiring clearing around the bridge approaches. The bridge has a roadway width of 14.0 feet, deck width of 15.80 feet, and total length of 36.00 feet. Key ratings include deck condition (6), superstructure (5), substructure (7), and channel condition (7). The bridge is currently closed to traffic due to washout damage at South Fork Umatilla #2 and other locations between bridges #2 and #3, requiring major road rebuilding work.
