About this file
This is a bridge inspection report dated August 21, 2023, for the North Fork Umatilla #1 Bridge (Structure No. 061406000001008) located in the Umatilla National Forest at milepost 0.7620 on Route 3200000. The inspection was conducted by James Carnahan as team leader for the USDA Forest Service Region 6.
The bridge is a two-span timber structure built in 1954 with glulam girders, naillam deck, concrete abutments, and a steel pier. The inspection revealed several issues requiring attention, including deteriorating asphalt deck surface with multiple cracks, failing end joints, and non-MASH standard bridge railings. The bridge received condition ratings of 6 (Fair) for deck, superstructure, and substructure components. Recommended work items include routine bridge inspection every 24 months, replacement of asphalt wearing surface (1,166 SF), repair/replacement of deck joints (30 LF), upgrading bridge and approach railings to crash-rated type (164 LF and 200 LF respectively), and raising object markers to 4 feet. The bridge requires a new load rating review as it contains pre-1970 glulam components, though it currently remains open with no posting restrictions.
