Question:
USNS Mercy built out two JP-5 service tanks 03-42-1 and 03-42-2. Will the USNS Comfort be doing the same?
NO.
RFC: 016
ITEM: 0502
Question:
The USNS Mercy de-scoped the aft peak tank. The scope called for a VEGAFLEX 81 (same as WI 0502 for the USNS Comfort). This tank will need a sounding tube with a radar, as there are too many baffles inside the tank to use a VEGAFLEX 81.
WI 0502 has an OIP being installed in 04-34-0 Bridge. On the USNS Mercy the scope was changed to a brick computer and fiber optic media converter (supplied by NAG) paired with a display/keyboard/mouse (supplied by shipyard). Would the USNS Comfort prefer the OIP, as noted in the WI, or do they want to mimic what was installed on the USNS Mercy?
We have identified 5 tanks from WI 0502 and 2 tanks from WI 0503 that already have TLI’s installed on them from back in 2017. Please clarify if these TLI’S still need to be quoted.
Answer:
ACCOMPLISH WORK ITEMS WRITTEN. ANY CHANGES IN CONFIGURATION WILL HAVE TO DELT WITH AS A CHANGE ORDER AFTER CONTRACT AWARD.

ITEM: 0960
Question:
Please offer guidance on how the underwater hull is to be maintained in a “wet condition” until the pressure washing is completed? The docking, set up and pressure washing would take several days and unless you had personnel constantly wetting the hull with firehoses during this time it would dry out tosome extent.
The specified pressure for the washing (2500 to 3000 PSI) may or may not be adequate to remove marine growth, slime, grass, tube worms, barnacles, etc. Should we price the hull for one wash / dry evolution and then adjust the pricing if additional washing or washing at a higher pressure is required?
Can we assume the spot work areas (3.1.2.2) would be in 100 square foot increments or bigger / smaller
Answer:
CONTRACTOR IS TO ACCOMPLISH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK ITEM AS WRITTEN.
THE PRESSURES (2500 TO 3000 PSI) ARE A MINIMUM. THE CONTRACTOR HAS THE OPTION TO USE GREATER PRESSURE IN ORDER TO REMOVE MARINE GROWTH (SLIME, GRASS, TUBE WORMS, BARNACLES), PEELING, BLISTERING AND FLAKING PAINT AND SALTS FROM THE HULL.
