SPECIFICATION
SEASHORE PASPALUM (PASPALUM VAGINATUM)
for
CLEAR WATER RISNE RACK
CG AIR STATION BARBERS POINT
KAPOLEI, HAWAII

GENERAL
Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum), indigenous to tropical and coastal areas, prostrate, perennial turf grass for use on golf courses, athletic fields, and landscape areas, tolerant in reduced light, soils range pH 3.6 to 10.2, waterlogged soils, soil salinity levels 54 dSm, and low mowing height (0.5-1.5”). Product shall have been in commercial use in the local environment for at least the past two years. Provide product (cultivar) data for review and approval prior to purchasing product. Send all submittals to the Contracting Officer.
VEGETATION PROPOGATION
Establish by sprigging with vegetative propagules obtained by shredding harvested sod or with a sprig harvester, and sprigs should be 6-8” long and have at least two vegetative nodes. Sprigs should be planted with 48 hours of being harvested. Planting rate should be minimum 500 bushels per acre, one bushel is the amount harvested from one square yard of established sod.
Plant material should be evenly broadcast over the area and pressed/cut into moist soil with a roller. After rolling, apply 1/4" layer of topdressing to the entire area such as soil, mulch, or hydromulch. Irrigate immediately after topdressing.
IRRIGATION
Provide temporary irrigation for the duration of propagation and establishment. Water shall be potable water. Provide frequent irrigation four to six times daily until roots become established between four to six weeks. Fertilizer would not need to be applied during establishment.
MAINTENANCE
During establishment, control broadleaf, grassy weeds, and foreign vegetation/plants.
