13. ABSTRACT (Maximum 200 words)
This handbook summarizes the contents of the Optical Signatures Code (OSC) Thermophysical Properties Database. The database provides information on the properties of various aerospace materials of interest to the ballistic missile defense community. Material properties stored in the RVTHRM database are compatible with the OSC and OPTISIG programs that compute optical (visible – IR) signatures of missiles, missile payloads, and related objects.

ABSTRACT
This handbook summarizes the contents of the Optical Signatures Code (OSC)
Thermophysical Properties Database. The database provides information on the properties of various aerospace materials that can be used in OSC and the OPTIcal Signature In-line
Generator (OPTISIG). Section 1 provides a brief discussion of how the OSC utilizes thermophysical data in its heat transfer algorithms. A description of the data base format is provided in Section 2 for those users who may wish to add their own data to the file. Graphs and tables of specific heat and thermal conductivity are presented in Section 3, along with other useful data on each material.

This work was performed as part of the Operation, Maintenance, and Sustainment of the
Hardbody Toolset of the MDA Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Toolkit for Contract Number
HQ0147-11-D-0015, under the technical direction of Dr. Mark Underwood (MDA/ESP) for the Missile Defense Agency. Recent previous releases were issued under the technical direction of Mr. Cliff Burson (MDA/ESP) and Ms. Carol Barclay (USASMDC/ARSTRAT).
Several sets of material properties have been provided by members of the OSC user community. These sources are cited in the data base and/or with the data tables. We would like to recognize Phil Smith, Andrew Edwards, Tina Minnell, Jim Varnavas, and George
Melochick for their contributions to the database.
We recognize that many of the material descriptions are not self-explanatory. In many cases, the OSC optical properties database (OPTPROP) contains supplemental information that will add depth to the description of the materials in the thermophysical database. Users are welcome to contact the OSC developers if any questions arise.
