3.1.1. Overview

The two server are configured as a Domain Model:

The domain name is: ICSDOVER

The server name for the PDC1 is: ICSSRV1 and for PDC2: ICSSRV2

3.2. Installing the System

3.2.1. Bios configuration

The following steps must be done on both server.

1. Power on the server.

2. If prompted, press F2 to enter Setup (Bios.).

3. select integrated Device. Step to Embedded Raid controller.

3.2.2. Hard disk and Raid controller configuration

3.2.2.1. Internal Hard disk

Note: The following steps have to be made on each server.

2. If prompted the Raid controller screen, press ctrl+m to run configuration utility.

3. On the Screen “Management Menu” select option : Select Adapter.

4. On the Adapter screen select the first Adapter.

5. On the Management Menu select Objects.

6. Select Adapter.

7. Switch “Cluster Mode” to – Enabled- and configure the Initiator ID Note: The Initiator ID must be different.

On Server 1 use the ID 7 / on Server 2 use ID 6

8. Step back to the Screen “Management Menu” select option: Select Adapter.

9. On the Adapter screen select the first Adapter.

10. Select Configure / Easy configuration.

11. Select the Harddisk for Raid configuration by pressing space tab.Press Enter

12. Press space tab to select and f10.key to configure Raid

13. Configure to Raid1 – use full size press accept.save configuration yes

3.2.2.3. External Hard disk

Note: The following steps have to be made only on ICSSRV1.

2. If prompted the Raid controller screen, press ctrl+m to run configuration utility.

3. On the Screen “Management Menu” select option: Select Adapter.

4. On the Adapter screen select the second Adapter.

5. Select Easy configuration.

6. Select the Hard disk for Raid configuration by pressing space tab.

create 3 X Raid1 for the 1. Raid use HD 0 and 1 for the second use 2 and 3 and for the third use 4 and 5.

configure the Raid the steps are the same as for internal.

7. After Raid configuration select Hard disk ID 8, press F4 for creating Hot Spare.

8. Confirm the Message, select Yes.

9. Save the configuration and exit. Press ctrl-alt-del.

3.3. Installing the Server

The operating system is installed by using a CD-ROM drive.

The CD “Dell Installation and Server Management Version 5” has to be used to ensure that all drivers are included.

During the installation steps the operating system CD’s are required for installation.

3.3.1. Main- and Operating System Installation

1. Insert the Installation and Server Management CD in the CD-ROM drive.

2. Restart the computer. If prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

The installation begins.

3. On the Screen “Server Assistant Boot Options” select option 1: Server Assistant, press Enter.

4. On the Welcome screen select your Language and Keyboard type and continue with the option Server Setup.

5. Configure your Time Zone and enter correct Date and Time, press continue.

6. Choose Configure Raid, press continue.

7. Select RAID-1 and enter the max. Size of the Hard disk (68,24GB), press continue.

8. Press continue, confirm the Alert message, press OK.

9. Select the Operating System (Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1), press continue.

10. Configure your Hard drive, select NTFS for File system.

Select 36GB for Operating system boot partition, press continue.

11. For Network Adapter Configuration choose DHCP.

(Network Configuration will be done later), press continue.

12. Enter the Operating System Information as shown, press continue.

13. In the screen Operating System Installation Summary select the option “Eject CD

Automatically”, press continue.

14. Now the System will be installed.

15. If prompted, insert the Operating System CD.

16. After Installation press Finish.

Now the Server Assistant reboots the system, and the installation continued automatically.

(Windows Server 2003 Setup formats the partition and then copies the files from the CD to the hard drive. The computer restarts and the Windows Server 2003 Installation Program continues)

3.3.2. Hard disk configuration

In the list you can see the configuration for the hard disks. Always use NTFS format for all drives.

The internal (int) drives are in each server, the external (ext) are in the disk enclosure.

3.3.3. Windows Server 2003 Setup Wizard

To continue the installation with the Windows Server Setup Wizard

1. The Windows Server 2003 Setup Wizard detects and installs devices. This can take several minutes, and during the process your screen may flicker.

2. After finished installation, you must insert the Windows Server CD 2, press OK.

3. In the Welcome Screen deselect the option box, press next.

4. In the summary Screen press Next.

5. Now the system will be updated.

6. After completing the Windows Server 2003 R2 update, press Finish.

3.3.3.1. Configure Settings

1. Right click on the start button and select Properties.

2. Choose Classic Start menu, press Customize.

3. Select the option boxes as shown, press OK.

4. Select the Tab Taskbar , configure as show, click Apply and OK.

3.3.3.2. Configure Disk

1. On the Desktop right click on my computer and select - manage.

2. Right click on the Unallocated space of Disk 0 ,select New Partition.

3. Select Primary partition, click next.

4. Use the full size, click next.

5. Assign the drive letter – D, click next.

6. Choose NTFS for File system and Data for labeling, select the Quick format option, click Next.

3.3.3.3. Install a domain controller on Server 1

If you are creating a domain controller for a new domain, this domain will be the first domain in a new forest.

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Manage Your

Server.

2. Click “Add or remove a role”

3. Select “Custom configuration”, click Next

4. Select “Domain Controller”, click Next

5. Select “Domain controller for a new Domain”, click Next.

6. Select “Domain in a new forest”, click Next.

7. Enter the full Domain name – “ICSDOVER.COM”, click Next.

8. Enter Netbios name – “ICSDOVER”, click Next

9. Confirm Database and Log folders settings, click Next.

10. Confirm Shared system folder location, click Next.

11. Select “install and configure DNS server…”, click Next.

12. Set Permission compatibility to “only with Windows2000 and Windows2003, click Next.

13. Enter a Administrator password for restore mode, click Next,

14. Insert Windows2003 server CD, click OK.

15. Click finish to close the wizard.

16. Restart your computer.

(remove CD before restart!)

17. After restart confirm the message, click Finish.

3.3.3.4. Install a domain controller on Server 2

If you are creating a domain controller for a existing domain, this server will be a additional domain controller in the forest.

18. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Manage Your

Server.

22. Select “Additional domain controller for an existing domain”, click Next.

23. Enter Network Administrator credentials for the domain, click Next.

24. Select your domain – “ICSDOVER.COM”, click Next.

25. Confirm Database and Log folders settings, click Next.

26. Confirm Shared system folder location, click Next.

28. Click finish to close the wizard.

29. Restart your computer.

30. After restart ,your server is now a domain controller.

3.3.3.5. Active Directory

Adding Users and Computers to the Active Directory Domain

After the new Active Directory domain is established, create a user account in that domain to use as an administrative account. When that user is added to the appropriate security groups, use that account to add computers to the domain.

Create a user for the cluster service named “cluster”.

Create a user for the Workstation named “ws”

To create a new user, follow these steps:

a.

Open Manage your server, select “manage users and computer.

b. Right-click Users, point to New, and then click User.

Type the full name (=cluster user / ws), and user logon name of the new user (=cluster / ws), and then click Next.

Type a new password, confirm the password, and then click to select one of the following check boxes:

• Users must change password at next logon (recommended for most users)

• Selection: User cannot change password

• Password never expires

• Account is disabled

Click Next.

f. Review the information that you provided, and if everything is correct, click Finish.

After you create the new user, give this user account membership in a group that permits that user to perform administrative tasks. Because this is a laboratory environment that you are in control of, you can give this user account full administrative access by making it a member of the Schema, Enterprise, and

Domain administrators groups. To add the account to the Schema, Enterprise, and

Domain administrators groups, follow these steps:

a. On the Active Directory Users and Computers console, right-click the new account that you created, and then click Properties.

b. Click the Member Of tab, and then click Add.

c. In the Select Groups dialog box, specify a group (=Domain User), and then click OK to

d. Repeat the selection process for each group in which the user needs account membership (not required for this project).

e. Click OK to finish.

The final step in this process is to add a member server to the domain. This process also applies to Workstations. To add a computer to the domain, follow these steps:

a. Log on to the computer that you want to add to the domain.

b. Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.

c. Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change.

d. In the Computer Name Changes dialog box, click Domain under Member Of, and then type the domain name. Click OK.

e.

When you are prompted, type the user name and password of the account that you previously created, and then click OK.

A message that welcomes you to the domain is generated.

f. Click OK to return to the Computer Name tab, and then click OK to finish.

g. Restart the computer if you are prompted to do so.

3.3.4. DNS Server Configuration

3.3.4.1. DNS Manager

These steps guide you through configuring DNS by using the DNS Manager.

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Manage Your Server, select “Manage the DNS Server.

2. Right click on the Reverse Lookup Zone, select NewZone.

3. Select “Primary zone” and activate the option “Store the zone in Active Directory”, click Next.

4. For Zone Replikation choose – “To all DNS servers in the ActiveDirectoryDomain, click

Next..

5. Enter your Network ID for the zone “your subnet ID – e.g. 192.168.0.X”, click Next.

6. Select “Allow only secure dynamic updates”. Click Next.

7. Finish

8. In DND manager right click on ICSSRV1 select properties.

9. On the Tab “Interfaces” remove the address for cluster interconnect interface, click OK.

10. Close the DNS manager.

3.3.5. Cluster Administrator

3.3.5.1. Installation Server 1

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Cluster Administrator.

2 Select Create a new Cluster.
