About this file
This document is a Pre-Bid Request for Information (RFI) #001 for a fire suppression system repair project at Tinker Air Force Base, Project #WWYK190068, dated 8/13/2025. The project involves removing the existing foam system within the hangar bays and replacing it with an automatic sprinkler system, focusing specifically on the hangar level only. The government provided clarifications on three key technical aspects: confirming the scope is limited to hangar bay sprinkler installation, allowing design flexibility for sprinkler placement and penetrations, and specifying requirements for explosion-proof LED text notification signs within the hangar bays, which must meet Class 1 Div 1 requirements and include programmable two-line display capabilities with alert and scrolling messages.

Tinker Air Force Base Project # WWYK190068 Repair Fire Suppression System, B2280 Pre-Bid RFI #001
23. The plans only provide floor plans for the hangar level. The drawings do not include plans for the currently un-sprinklered mechanical level above the hangar bays. Please confirm that this contract must not sprinkler the mechanical level.
GOVT. RESPONSE: Confirmed, the scope of work for this project is to remove the foam system within the Hangars and replace with an automatic sprinkler system within the hanger bays only.
24. The existing sprinklers are spaced closer than the maximum allowable spacing in the hangar bay.
Please confirm the existing holes in the structural ceiling must be reused. Closer sprinkler spacing may increase system demand. However it appears to be the governments intent to avoid patching ceiling holes and redrilling through the structural floor.
GOVT. RESPONSE: The design of the new sprinkler system for the hangers is a delegated design and the contractor is responsible for final installation design. The design intent does not require the reuse of existing penetrations or openings. Reference Structural Sheet S- 001 General Note 5 on openings and Fire Sheet F-001 Sprinkler System Demolition Note 13 and Sprinkler System General Notes 8 & 9.
25. The contract drawings indicate textual notification signs are required to be explosion proof.
Please provide the basis of design product for the text signs located within the hangar bays.
GOVT. RESPONSE: LED Text Signs within Class 1 areas that meet Explosion Proof Class 1 Div 1 requirements, either standalone or within an enclosure, that meet UFC requirements for LED Text Signs and are two line programmable. Top line shall display alert message “Evacuate” or “Alert” and second line shall scroll message from right to left. The Capsol LEDM would be referenced as the bases of design, but not the required product.
