About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a federal solicitation for radiant bay heating system upgrades at multiple hangars. The solicitation seeks the installation of new infrared tubing heating systems, replacement of rate of rise heat detectors with linear heat detectors, and upgrades to ensure compatibility with existing foam release and flame detection systems. Bidders should review available as-built drawings of the mechanical, electrical, and fire alarm systems, and must comply with all security and flightline driving requirements to access the hangar buildings. Advice is provided on placement of new infrared tubing to avoid locations directly over aircraft. Classification details for explosion-proof requirements in various hangar areas can be found in the original electrical as-built documents.

Text version

• Can asbuilt drawings (mechanical, electrical, and fire alarm) be made available for bidding purposes?

Provided in previous round of answers

• What type of infrared heating system is required for this project? Vacuum pumped full modulation or simple on/off?

Single stage

• Are there escort requirements for these buildings?

Provided in previous round of answers

• SOW 3.6.6 stated “Provide and install linear heat detection to replace the demolished rate of rise detectors”. Please clarify.

Linear heat detectors are a requirement as they have been less likely to false alarm with tube heaters. The cross linked requirement in the SOW is incorrect – cross linked configuration is NOT required.

• Is there any work required on the foam release and flame detection system?

The only requirement is to ensure that the new heaters do not trip the foam release / flame detectors.

- Are as-builts of the Hangers available?

Yes, I will include a DoD SAFE link.

- What are the explosion-proof requirements?

Classification for the various areas of the hangars can be found in the original electrical as-builts

– detail below. Your design must determine if these classifications are still relevant and compliant with current regulations.

- Is there a minimum distance required from top of jet to the heaters?

This will be dependent upon the tubing layout in the facility and the temperature of the section of tubing over the aircraft. Recommend avoiding placing tubing directly over the aircraft, particularly the centerline and vertical stabilizers.

- What are the security requirements required to get into the hangars?

As noted in the site visit, access will require an escort unless the building can be turned over to the contractor. Flightline driving requires Flightline Driving course, available through SF.
