RUBBERIZED ASPHALT EMULSION SEALANT
1. PART 1- GENERAL
1.1. APPLICABLE PUBLICATIONS: The publications listed below form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. The publications are referred to in the text by the basic designation only.

1.2. TEST REQUIREMENTS: Product information on the proposed sealant to be used shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer for approval prior to use on the jobsite.
1.3. EQUIPMENT: Machines, tools and equipment used in the performance of the work required by this section shall be approved before the work is started and shall be maintained in satisfactory condition at all times.
1.4. DELIVERY AND STORAGE: Materials delivered to the jobsite shall be inspected for defects, unloaded, and stored with a minimum of handling to avoid damage. Storage facilities shall be provided at the jobsite to protect materials from weather and to maintain them at the temperatures as recommended by the manufacturer.
1.5. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The ambient air temperature and the pavement temperature shall be a minimum of 50 degree F and rising at the time of application of the materials. Sealant shall not be applied if moisture is present.
2. PRODUCT:
2.1. DESCRIPTION: The sealant shall have the following physical properties:
a. Color Deep Black
b. Solids Content 49% Minimum by Weight
c. Weight 9 lbs. per Gallon
d. Fiber Non-Asbestos
e. Flammability Non-Flammable
f. Acrylic Copolymer 3-5%
2.2. CONFORMITY: Sealant shall conform to ASTM-D-217, ASSHTO T 45-56%, ASTM 3910, Fed. Spec. TT-C-555B, and TT-C-551B.
3. EXECUTION:
3.1. PREPARATION OF ASPHALT SURFACE: Immediately before the installation of the sealant, the cracks shall be thoroughly cleaned and sealed as described in SECTION 02975 “Sealing of Cracks in Bituminous Pavement. The surface shall be free of all dirt, sand, oil or grease, and/or any foreign material(s) that will prevent the bonding of the sealant to the asphalt surface. The pavement surface and any small (hairline) cracks shall be completely dry of any moisture before the sealant is applied. Comply with manufacturer’s instructions on application.
3.2. APPLICATION RATE: The application rate for a single application shall be 2.5 gallons per 100 sq. ft. If more than one application is required then the previous application shall be fully cured before the next application is applied.
