APPENDIX B9D
LESSER TEST AREAS (LTAs)
1.0 PURPOSE.
2.0
The purpose of the LTAs is to provide specialized mission support and absorb overflow from the main test areas.
2.1. The term "Lesser Test Areas" describes test facilities that do not typically warrant full-time manning on a regular day-to-day basis. The LTAs are ranges or special project areas located throughout the Eglin Complex which are used infrequently or support missions that do not require Contractor support. The LTAs include:
GENERAL.
2.1.1. TA A-77, TA A-78, and TA A-79. TAs A-77/78/79 are tactical training ranges located 25 miles west of Eglin main base, reached via SR 189, and RRs 234 and 747 to TA A-77, RRs 234 and 678 to TA A-78, and RR 234 to TA A-79 . Principal features are:
1. TA A-77 and TA A-78 each have a 4000-foot by 4000-foot impact area with various targets to simulate convoys, bivouac areas, and missile sites.
2. TA A-77 has an approximately 13,000-foot ricochet area on all sides.
This overlaps the southwest portion of TA B-70. TA A-77 has a concrete bunker at the northwest corner of the impact area.
3. TA A-78 has an approximately 12,000-foot ricochet area on all sides.
This overlaps the northwest portion of TA A-77 and the southwest portion of TA A-73.
4. TA A-79 does not have any permanent target structures and is used infrequently.
2.1.2. TA B-12. TA B-12 (Auxiliary Field 7) is a simulated air base located approximately 15 miles northwest of Eglin main base, reached via SR 189, RRs 234 and
213. It is used for dynamic tests of munitions against simulated and real aircraft targets, static munitions tests, and tests and exercises to evaluate airborne reconnaissance equipment.
2.1.3. TA C-62. TA C-62 is located approximately 36 miles northeast of Eglin main base, reached via SRs 20 and 285 and RRs 210 and 200. TA C-62 supports the tests of new experimental weapons and equipment. It also supports training pilots in munitions delivery. TA C-62 has a simulated UXO field for testing UXO detection systems.
2.1.4. TA B-7. TA B-7 is a sparsely wooded area located approximately 18 miles northwest of Eglin main base, reached via SR 189 and RRs 234, 213, and 751. It is adjacent to the northwest corner of TA B-75. TA B-7 supports tactical training for air-to-ground side-firing weapon systems.

2.1.5. TA A-85. TA A-85 is approximately seven acres located on US 98, approximately 12 miles west of Eglin main base. It is directly on Santa Rosa Sound and is primarily used as a water ingress/egress site for training and exercises.
2.1.6. TA D-84. TA D-84 is approximately 30 acres located on SR 20, approximately 15 miles east of Eglin main base. It is directly on Choctawhatchee Bay and is primarily used for training and exercises.
2.1.7. Interstitial Areas. Interstitial areas are within the borders of the Eglin complex that are outside the designated TAs and TSs. These areas provide a buffer space between TAs, TSs, and other facilities. Test missions are conducted on interstitial areas only with special authorization. However, operational ground training missions are routinely conducted in these areas.
3.0
3.1. The Contractor shall support the LTAs with mobile instrumentation and communications support. Typical support includes:
CAPABILITIES.
3.1.1. Range safety and control, target setup and scoring, and mobile communications.
3.1.2. Instrumentation setup and operations. No permanent instrumentation is installed on the lesser test areas, instrumentation requirements are defined per mission.
3.2. The Contractor shall operate and maintain the TA C-62 range control equipment including:
1. Electronic racks with various radio transmitters and receivers.
2. A 4-bay control console with various panels for communication control.
3. One spotting tower (8755) with M-2 scoring unit, intercom, and communication console with installed radios.
4. One range control tower (8958) with M-2 scoring unit; scoring computers with printer and cassette interface; Del Mar scoring unit.
5. Improved Remote Strafe Scoring System (IRSSS).
3.3. The Contractor shall support test and training missions on the LTAs IAW tasks and test directives.
