About this file
This document consists of structural calculations and design documentation for the Klamath Tribes Fitness Center Addition in Chiloquin, Oregon, prepared by Froelich Engineers, Inc. under project number 26-B224. The project involves a one-story wood-framed addition to the existing fitness center featuring open-web wood roof trusses, wood-sheathed shear walls for lateral support, and conventional shallow concrete foundations. The design adheres to the 2024 International Building Code and 2025 Oregon Structural Specialty Code, with construction classified as Type V-B. Key design parameters include a ground snow load of 96 psf with a design balanced roof snow load of 69.6 psf, basic wind speed of 102 mph (Exposure C), and seismic design category D with a site class D classification. The project location at approximately 4,200 feet elevation in Chiloquin experiences significant snow loading requiring detailed drift analysis for both leeward and windward roof conditions, with maximum surcharge loads of 61.4 psf and 51.5 psf respectively.
The structural design incorporates multiple roof framing systems including Red-H open-web trusses at 24-inch on-center spacing for the upper, low, and side roofs with spans ranging from 50 feet 4 inches to 59 feet, glulam beams (24F-V4 DF) sized from 5.5 inches by 9 inches to 6.75 inches by 31.5 inches for primary load-carrying members, and sawn lumber members (2x10 and 2x12 Douglas Fir No. 2) for secondary framing. All structural members have been analyzed and verified to meet allowable stress design criteria per the National Design Specification 2024, with deflection limits of L/240 for live loads and L/180 for total loads. Bearing pressures are limited to 2,500 psf on conventional shallow foundations with a minimum depth of 24 inches. The design incorporates seismic separation from the existing building structure due to differing lateral force-resisting systems, and all calculations account for the facility's Risk Category III classification with an importance factor of 1.25.

SCOPE OF WORK
Froelich Engineers, Inc. (FE) has provided full structural lateral and gravity design of the project per the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) and 2025 Oregon Structural Specialty Code
(OSSC).
Froelich Engineers, Inc. has provided drawings and details as required by code to the areas pertaining to our design.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
1-story addition to the existing Fitness Center in Chiloquin, OR. The new addition is wood-framed with open-web wood roof trusses. Bearing is on traditional concrete strip and spread footings. There is a non-structural concrete slab on grade. Lateral support is provided by plywood shear walls. The new addition is seismically separated from the existing building due to mixture of CMU and wood shear walls in the existing.

Value provided is 3-second gust wind speeds at 33 ft above ground for Exposure C Category, based on linear interpolation between contours. Wind speeds are interpolated in accordance with the 7-22 Standard. Wind speeds correspond to approximately a 3% probability of exceedance in 50 years (annual exceedance probability = 0.000588, MRI = 1,700 years). Values for 10-year MRI, 25-year MRI, 50-year MRI and 100-year MRI are Service Level wind speeds, all other wind speeds are Ultimate wind speeds.
Site is not in a hurricane-prone region as defined in ASCE/SEI 7-22 Section 26.2.

Values provided are ground snow loads. In areas designated "case study required," extreme local variations in ground snow loads preclude mapping at this scale. Site-specific case studies are required to establish ground snow loads at elevations not covered.
Snow load values are mapped to a 0.5 mile resolution.
This resolution can create a mismatch between the mapped elevation and the site-specific elevation in topographically complex areas. Engineers should consult the local authority having jurisdiction in locations where the reported ‘elevation’ and ‘mapped elevation’ differ significantly from each other.
Ground Snow Loads for IRC only, p :g(asd) 67.2 lb/ft
