The specification establishes requirements for a flush-mounted, hinged access panel designed for interior wall or ceiling installation in high-security or sensitive areas. The panel shall be constructed from 16- or 18-gauge galvanized steel or stainless steel framing with a 14- or 16-gauge galvanized steel door, factory primed or powder-coated in white or custom colors. Security features include a tamper-proof locking mechanism (Allen head, spanner head, or security hex cam latch), concealed tamper-resistant fasteners, and a concealed latch system requiring a special tool for opening. The panel accommodates multiple installation methods including recessed flange, surface mount, or mud-in flange mounting with minimum clearances of 1/16 inch between door and frame. Optional features include fire-rated assemblies (1-hour or 2-hour UL-listed), insulation for thermal or acoustic purposes, air and dust sealing with EPDM gaskets for HVAC or clean room environments, and custom labeling.
The specification references compliance with ASTM A653/A653M standards for galvanized steel and ADA accessibility guidelines where applicable, with approved manufacturers including Acudor, Babcock-Davis, Karp, JL Industries, or equivalent products.
