About this file

This is a project specifications document for improving patient privacy in Building 500, Area 4B at the Richmond VA Medical Center. The specifications outline requirements for general construction, asbestos abatement, alterations, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, data communications, and fire suppression work.

The project includes detailed division specifications covering multiple areas including general requirements, existing conditions, concrete, metals, wood/plastics/composites, thermal/moisture protection, openings, finishes, specialties, equipment, furnishings, fire suppression, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, communications, and electronic safety/security. Key operational requirements include maintaining medical center operations 24/7, coordinating utility interruptions, following strict security protocols, and implementing infection control measures. The contractor must develop a CPM schedule, provide monthly updates, and coordinate with VA staff for access and phasing of work. The specifications emphasize protection of existing facilities, patient safety, and minimizing disruption to hospital operations. Special provisions address working in occupied healthcare facilities, including noise restrictions, utility coordination, and infection control requirements.

3. Shall note any discrepancies between drawings and existing conditions at site.
