About this file

This is a technical specification (Section 10 90 00) for ceiling mounted patient lift systems at the Richmond VA Medical Center, detailing requirements for installation and equipment. The specification calls for two types of patient lifts: regular lifts with 600 lb capacity and bariatric lifts with 1000 lb capacity, both featuring room-covering traverse systems with linear single track extensions into toilet rooms.

The lifts must include numerous safety and operational features including on-demand return-to-charge function, all metal drive train, lift cycle counter, high capacity battery, emergency stop/lowering capabilities, and Class III internal scale displaying patient weight. Key requirements include compliance with ISO 10535 and UL 60601-1 standards, continuous charging capability anywhere on the track, ability to lift patients from the floor, and speeds up to 6 cm/second. The manufacturer must provide a 3-year warranty on tracks, installation, motors and parts (or 10-year warranty if performing annual maintenance), with an expected system life of 15 years minimum. Installation requirements include structural support system design, coordination with other building systems, and 8 hours of comprehensive training for facility personnel.
