About this file
This document is a Monthly Progress Summary Report from KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC/Trinity (KGS/Trinity) for June 2025, detailing Operations, Maintenance, and Monitoring (OM&M) of a biosparge system at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. The report covers contract N4008523D0073/Task Order N4008524F6461, focusing on Zones 1 and 2 of the site. Key activities in June 2025 included weekly remote system performance checks, an on-site maintenance round on June 10, and light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) gauging and recovery. Notable observations include a non-functioning flowmeter on BL-101, flow rate issues with well BSW-26, and LNAPL detection in monitoring wells TMW5, 1MW4, and 1MW11, with a total of 0.25, 1.5, and 0.25 gallons of LNAPL recovered, respectively. The cumulative LNAPL removal at the site stands at 82.655 gallons.
The report outlines planned activities for July 2025, including another system maintenance round scheduled for July 8, which will involve LNAPL gauging and recovery, inspecting BSW-26 with a downhole camera, and repairing the BL-101 flowmeter. Ongoing issues include inaccessible wells (BSW-01 and BSW-02) due to asphalt patches, and the previously destroyed monitoring well 1MW9, which the contractor recommends replacing to continue monitoring concentrations before they enter the Thames River. The document includes detailed attachments such as recorded O&M observations, an LNAPL gauging and recovery summary table, and weekly system logs.

RE: Monthly Progress Summary Report – June 2025
Zones 1 and 2 Biosparge System Operations, Maintenance, and Monitoring (OM&M) Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, CT Contract# N4008523D0073/Task Order# N4008524F6461
Dear Mr. Bray, KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC/Trinity (KGS/Trinity) is pleased to provide this June 2025 Monthly Progress Summary Report, detailing a summary on the Operations, Maintenance, and Monitoring (OM&M) for the biosparge system located in Zone 1 and 2, Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, CT:
1. OM&M Activities – June 2025
a. Performed weekly remote checks on system performance.
b. On-site system maintenance round was completed on 10 June 2025.
i. KGS/Trinity tech recorded observations.
1. Observations attached.
c. Overall, the system is running as designed.
d. The flowmeter on BL-101 is not working properly.
e. The desired flowrate of 4.0 actual cubic feet per minute (acfm) at BSW-02 to BSW-12 was achieved.
f. The desired flowrate of 3.0 acfm at BSW-13 through BSW-30 was mostly achieved, with the exception at BSW-26. It has now been at least 8 months since this well has not received the flow. There is a new asphalt patch in the vicinity of BSW-26 performed by another contractor. It is suspected that during asphalt paving, damage to the air line may have occurred. Repairing biosparge lines is not part of this contract.
g. Light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) gauging occurred on 10 June 2025. LNAPL was detected in monitoring well TMW5 at an estimated thickness of 0.21 feet. A sheen was noted on the measuring probe for 1MW4 and 1MW11.
h. LNAPL recovery at 1MW4, 1MW11, and TMW5 was conducted on 10 June 2025. A peristaltic pump was used to recover 0.25, 1.5, and 0.25 gallons of LNAPL, respectively. To date, 82.655-gallons of LNAPL have been removed at the site. A tracking summary sheet is provided as an attachment to this monthly report.
2. Submittals
a. May 2025 Monthly Report - 06 June 2025.
3. Next Month (July 2025) Planned O&MM Activities
b. Next System Maintenance Round is tentatively scheduled for 08 July 2025. This will include:
KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC Subsidiary of the Natives of Kodiak
1. LNAPL gauging and recovery.
c. Inspect BSW-26 with a downhole camera to try and determine why there is no flow.
d. Repair flow meter on BL-101.
4. Issues and Concerns
e. BSW-01 remains inaccessible due to a partial asphalt patch over the well cover.
i. Update 05 June 2025. Although inaccessible, air has been turned back on to this well but may not be getting into this well. Repair of biosparge well substructures are not within the scope of this current contract.
f. BSW-02 remains inaccessible due to a partial asphalt patch over the well cover as denoted in the June Monthly O&M Report. This well is receiving and maintaining the required flowrate.
g. BSW-26 is not receiving flow. It is suspected that the air line may have been damaged during a recent re-paving effort (performed by another contractor). Repair of biosparge substructures is not within the scope of the current contract.
h. As indicated in the January 2023 Monthly report, 1MW9 had been destroyed by others during an excavation to repair a main water line by another contractor. Recommend installing a replacement well as this well serves to monitor concentrations just before they enter the Thames River. Well installations are not within the scope of the current contract.

Make sure housing is free from dust and dirt, clean if necessary
Remove acoustic enclosure and clean fan cowlings, fan wheels, ventilation grilles and cooling fans
Replace inlet air filter
Check the inlet scree, clean if necessary
Change synchronizing gear oil
Check that the system is operating correctly
Remove dust and debris from cooling fan and heat exchanger
Remove weather hood and inspect element, clean if needed
Remove fouling and moisture buildup in rotameter when adjusting flow becomes difficult
