GENERAL ITEMS SPECIFIC TO ARCHITECTURAL WORKS

All building construction and execution details are to be properly evaluated and developed by the contractor based on the specific products and systems selected for execution by the contractor in such a way that all building components and assemblies are fully functional and finished and meet performance requirements, including full compliance with U.S. and host nation regulations, as well as manufacturer’s prescriptions and instructions. Depending on the chosen manufacturers, products or systems selected; the design details or drawings may need to be redesigned by the contractor to meet these performance requirements and good practice principles. All materials and efforts required to obtain fully compliant, functional and finished assemblies are included. All construction details shall be properly evaluated, prepared and presented by the contractor for prior approval by the COR before construction.

Excavations relating to the creation of a construction area, prior to beginning of work.

Measures taken to lower the water table must guarantee the production of a completely dry work surface.

Lowering the water table stops only when the construction gives sufficient back pressure and on the COR’s agreement.

Prior to excavation, soil samples of the material comprising each excavated slope will be tested to determine the material unconfined compressive strength. These test values will be submitted and used to determine the soil type and required sloping or benching requirements as per EM 385-1-1.

01.01 Execution

A 30-cm-thick layer of topsoil is excavated (as far as this thickness is sufficient to remove all roots).

The surface of the soil from which the topsoil shall be removed is the total building (circumference of the foundations) surface up to 2,00m around the buildings.

The surface soil is stored on the worksite at a place of the COR’s choice.

No trace of waste should be mixed with the surface soil during storage, spreading and leveling

03.03.01 Shoring and retaining works

General The contractor will carry out the shoring and retaining works carefully. At least two weeks before the start of the works, he will submit a work planning for approval to the COR.

The COR reserves the right to change this planning. The contractor will have to comply with these changes. The contractors are deemed to have investigated the state and location of the parts to be shored, as well as the difficulties involved.

When carrying out the shoring and retaining works, all necessary precautions must be taken to ensure the soundness of the excavation.

The contractor will take all necessary precautions and carry out all reinforcement works, at his own costs and under his own responsibility, which he deems necessary to protect and secure the excavations, buildings, constructions and other elements.

Damages caused by the contractor shall be restored in their original state at the contractor’s own expense.

The contractor will immediately proceed with all repair works to damaged constructions, at the simple request of the COR.

All shoring and retaining materials remain the contractor’s property, except stipulated otherwise.

To be provided by the contractor:

- the calculation sheets of the shoring system, taking into account the foundation system and loads of neighboring buildings / grounds (= calculation of horizontal and vertical displacements / dimensioning of retaining wall in section, depth and armoring / …). The calculation sheet gives the abutment depth with respect to the levels on the architectural drawings, as well as the height of the shoring

These works shall be carried out in accordance with applicable safety regulations.

The contractor will first gather information from all relevant authorities and calculate his tender price accordingly. After tender, no price changes shall be accepted.

The contractor can take care of designing the shoring works personally or he can entrust an independent specialist designer with this job, at his own initiative. The responsibility of the shoring system rests on the contractor.

Material Shoring is done with a performance-based retaining method in order to prevent cracking in the roads and constructions to be preserved, subsidence and/or unravelling of the excavation, and prevent any settlement of new constructions.

Execution The shoring works shall be carried out carefully, with appropriate resources.

The execution method shall be submitted to the COR for prior approval. Dewatering shall be taken into account. The period during which shoring shall be maintained is linked with the duration of the structural works of the building / dewatering, except stipulated otherwise.

Damages to building components that are intended to remain unchanged shall be restored in their original state by the contractor at his own costs.

In case of inevitable connections, all the extremities of each conductor and its connections must be accessible for checking.

Execution A grounding loop is placed on the floor of the foundation trench under the outer walls and is covered with a 5-cm-thick layer of pure sand in order to avoid any contact with reinforcements or other metallic materials. The extremities of the loop must be accessible for examination, are linked to a small copper plate, and are equipped with a grounding circuit-breaker. If the grounding loop is made up of several conductors placed in series, the extremities of each conductor as well as their connections must be equally accessible for examination. Passage through the foundation towards the connections is made in a flexible PVC tube in order to avoid all contact with the foundation. The dispersion strength is measured before the foundation concrete is poured.

The extremities of the electrode finish 2.0m above the level of the ground slab and cannot touch.

the filling up is homogeneous ;

• the main penetration x, with a light blow on a probe, on the entire depth by 10cm layers from the base, is 40mm/blow.

The final filling up of the trenches can only be executed after the permission of the COR. The contractor finishes the filling up in layers of 30cm maximum.

The use of a device for the filling up in depth is not authorized.

I.2.2.-14. KEEPING THE TRENCH DRY

The excavation and the placement of pipes shall only be done in a dry area, if necessary, draining the area in order to keep the water at least 0.50m below the trench bottom.

All necessary work for the maintenance and movement of public utilities, passing through the vertical parts of the trench, are a general responsibility for the contractor.

The utility cables that cross the trenches and which are not placed in a section of the sewer shall be maintained; the support, the temporary disconnecting, the displacement and reconnection as well as putting them back in place are the responsibility of the contractor.

Work includes: all utilities that need to be displaced in function of the site works. The contractor is obliged to adapt his manner of shoring in such a way that the cables can be maintained.

I.2.2.-16. HANDLING OF EXCAVATED SOIL

The excavated soil, re-used as refill, will be subjected to physical separation aimed at eliminating its contents of stones and foreign materials, in accordance with regional and national soil legislation. This soil becomes the property of the contractor and will be removed from the site following the local guidelines to a suitable disposal or treatment center, if necessary and/or required.
