About this file
This document is Attachment 9 - Prototype Testing Outline, detailing comprehensive testing requirements for small arms weapons and ammunition prototypes across multiple ammunition types and configurations.
The testing outline specifies weapon system testing requirements across 15 weapons with approximately 15,865 total rounds for Training Round ammunition, 830 rounds for Counter Defilade Round, 470 rounds for Close Quarters Battle Round, 15 primed cases, and 600 rounds for Counter-UAS Round. Weapon testing includes inspection, parts interchange, zero repeatability, zero retention, recoil, kinematics, and reliability/durability evaluations (3,000-8,100 rounds per test category). Performance testing encompasses firing table ballistic matching, operational temperature extremes (125°F to -25°F), environmental conditions (thermal shock, altitude, solar radiation, dust, humidity, rain, immersion, and salt fog), and mechanical stress testing (1.5-meter concrete drops). Ammunition testing covers 680 total rounds for Training, 1,165 for Counter Defilade, 710 for Close Quarters Battle, and 1,285 for Counter-UAS variants, including dispersion, sequential rough handling, electronic pressure/velocity/action time measurement, airburst accuracy, fuze testing (arming, graze sensitivity, impact safety, point detonation), and long-term storage evaluation. Fire control system testing requires evaluation of 24 units across optical performance (field of view, magnification, resolution, transmittance), laser capabilities (visible and infrared aiming lasers), ranging and ballistic computation, environmental durability, electromagnetic effects, system reliability, and various mounting and operational characteristics. All testing will be performed in accordance with Test Operations Procedure 03-2-045A for Small Arms weapons and ammunition, with all test quantities noted as approximations subject to change.
