About this file
This is a 2024 Communications Efforts Report documenting MetLife's contractual communications services provided to the State of Tennessee for its disability insurance programs. MetLife executed multiple communication initiatives throughout 2024 to support employee education and enrollment for short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits, including developing pregnancy-related FAQs, launching wellness email campaigns, implementing a creative refresh with Tennessee-specific design elements, updating member handbooks and plan summaries, and enhancing the benefits microsite. A significant direct mail awareness campaign was deployed to 72,964 active eligible employees featuring STD messaging and enrollment calls-to-action. Additionally, MetLife participated in the State and Higher Education meeting on August 21, 2024, attended multiple benefit fairs, and produced an 18-minute instructional video for employees covering STD and LTD plan highlights, rates, benefit calculations, and frequently asked questions. From January 1, 2024, through February 5, 2025, the microsite generated 6,524 unique visits and 10,718 page views with an average session duration of 127 seconds, with peak utilization occurring in October 2024 at 899 visits.
All communications efforts and services were provided to the State of Tennessee at no additional cost under MetLife's contractual provisions. Notably, the report indicates a decrease in STD enrollment based on January billing data following the direct mail awareness campaign, warranting additional review and potential discovery sessions between MetLife and the State to determine causative factors. The communications initiatives collectively supported the State's objective of maintaining employee awareness and understanding of available disability insurance benefits during the contract period preceding the planned transition to a new vendor on January 1, 2027.
