About this file

This is a Route-Specific Technical Specification (Appendix 5) from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) detailing requirements for Route F5 Lynn Ferry service between Blossom Street Pier in Lynn and Long Wharf North in Boston. The service operates seasonally from May 1 to November 30, running Monday through Friday with weekend service from Memorial Day to Indigenous People's Day. The MBTA will provide two vessels for the route: the leased MV Ava Pearl (150 passengers) as the primary vessel and the MBTA-owned MV Schoodic Explorer (149 passengers) as the backup vessel. The service provider must maintain minimum crew requirements of one licensed captain and two crew members per shift per vessel, and must provide or obtain rights to a docking facility in Boston between Central Wharf and Christopher Columbus Park.

The technical specifications outline maintenance requirements for both vessels, including specific maintenance intervals for the Schoodic Explorer's engines, generators, and auxiliary systems. The service provider must use the MBTA's Helm Connect Maintenance system and maintain vessels in service-ready condition, defined as able to enter revenue service within 24 hours of notification. The MBTA provides docking facilities at Blossom Street Dock in Lynn and Charlestown Marina, both equipped with shore power and water connections. The document includes detailed vessel specifications but does not include specific pricing terms or funding requirements.
