About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract opportunity AM202603-25 Rev. 1.

The document addresses an offeror inquiry regarding the acceptability of a closed-loop liquid-cooled Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) for LBNL. The offeror proposed a solution with the cooling unit integrated into the same 6-foot rack as the transmitter, featuring a heat exchanger capable of operating as either a liquid-to-air or liquid-to-liquid system with access to a cooling room or water tower. The proposed system would include pulse correction, droop correction, hot-swappable and fast field-replaceable capabilities, graceful degradation functionality, and an embedded power supply.

LBNL's response affirmed acceptance of the closed-loop liquid-cooled SSPA solution and invited submission of a bid. The agency indicated willingness to review the proposed solution and work with the supplier to accommodate the heat exchanger as an interface with the closed-loop cooling system. LBNL emphasized that off-the-shelf systems meeting its requirements would receive high consideration in the evaluation process.

OFFEROR QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES

AM202603-25 Rev. 1

Question:

Would LBNL accept a closed loop liquid-cooled SSPA?

Comments:

- The cooling unit would be in the same 6’ rack as the transmitter

- liquid cooled solution would include a heat exchanger (either liquid to air or liquid to liquid (if there is access to a cooling room or water tower))

- solution would include pulse correction

- solution would include droop correction

- solution would be hot swappable/fast field replaceable

- solution would have graceful degradation

- solution would have embedded power supply

Response:

Yes, please submit a bid for the closed-loop liquid-cooled SSPA. We can review the proposed solution and determine how to best accommodate the heat exchanger as an interface with the closed-loop cooling system.

If supplier can offer an off-the-shelf system that meets LBNL’s requirements, it will receive high consideration.
