About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of two pulsed RF High Power Amplifier (HPA) units for the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

The contract requires the vendor to design, manufacture, test, and deliver two solid-state RF HPA units based on LDMOS or GaN FET technology: one 25 kW unit operating at approximately 125 MHz (HPA-1) and one 25 kW unit operating at approximately 500 MHz (HPA-2). The contract is structured as a firm fixed price award in USD with milestone-based payments dependent on successful completion of progressive stages through final Site Acceptance Test (SAT). The vendor is responsible for procuring all materials, parts, tools, jigs, fixtures, and test equipment with no materials supplied by LBNL. The vendor must complete all work within one year of receipt of order (ARO). Deliverables include the two HPA units, NRTL certifications, California licensed structural engineer evaluations, comprehensive documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, parts lists, schematics, and QA/QC documentation. All design documentation and engineering work product becomes LBNL property. The vendor must maintain an ISO-9001 compliant QA/QC program and provide a three-year comprehensive on-site warranty from date of written acceptance or 3.5 years from delivery, whichever occurs earlier.

Key milestones include submission of an Initial Design Proposal Report in response to the RFP; a Preliminary Design Review Package within three months ARO; a Final Design Review Package within six months ARO; a Final Design Review (FDR) meeting at approximately six months ARO; successful 100-hour continuous reliability testing at 25 kW pulsed output; NRTL preliminary field evaluation certification prior to Factory Acceptance Test (FAT); FAT execution with LBNL representative presence; NRTL final field evaluation certification at LBNL site prior to SAT; and final SAT with subset of FAT tests. Bi-weekly progress meetings and monthly written reports are required throughout the contract. The vendor must establish configuration management controls, permit LBNL factory site visits with reasonable notice, and obtain NRTL approvals from a reputed organization with worldwide operations to ensure consistency between preliminary and final inspections.

4 INTRODUCTION

This Statement of Work (SOW) document provides the scope of work to be done by the prospective vendor in the procurement contract, to be awarded, for two pulsed RF HPA units of pulsed flat top output power of 25 kW, one unit (HPA-1) operating at approximately 125

MHz and second HPA unit (HPA-2) operating at approximately 500 MHz. The two HPA units shall be based on latest solid state RF LDMOS or GaN FET technology and they will replace the existing old tube based RF pulsed HPA for providing requisite stable and controlled pulsed high power to the two Sub-Harmonic Buncher cavities in the Linac section of

Advanced Light Source at LBNL. This document outlines the vendor responsibilities and obligations necessary for completing the requirements as set forth herein.

In accordance with the specifications and requirements found in the SHB RF pulsed HPA ESD

(see Ref # [13]) and Applicable Documents as listed in this Statement of Work, the vendor shall design, undergo reviews, manufacture, undergo tests, and deliver two HPA systems as set forth in this document.

In the event of any conflict between the HPA ESD Reference [13] in the Applicable Documents table and this Statement of Work (SOW), the vendor shall immediately notify the LBNL representative, who shall in each instance determine which document takes precedence and advise the vendor accordingly. Failure to notify LBNL of a document conflict shall not relieve the vendor’s responsibility to ensure full compliance to all requirements.

5.15.3 The conducting of the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) shall be a joint responsibility of the vendor and LBNL. In the SAT, a subset of tests from FAT shall be carried out on both HPAs, as per the LBNL-approved TIP documents, so as to verify the

SAT results match the results during the FAT. The SAT test results shall be reviewed by LBNL and only after passing all such tests, written acceptance of the SAT test results will be provided by LBNL to the vendor.

5.15.4 Both HPAs shall be considered finally accepted by LBNL only after written approval and acceptance of SAT results by LBNL.

5.15.5 HPAs with unacceptable SAT performance results (failed SAT) shall be repaired on site at LBNL by the vendor at vendor’s cost within a reasonable time.

5.16 Warranty

5.16.1 The vendor must provide a comprehensive, on-site (at LBNL) warranty for both
