About this file

This document includes instructions for reconnecting an AMI system cellular modem and related federal contract opportunity. The instructions outline steps for configuring a standalone laptop and cellular modem to establish an internet connection, and then connecting the laptop to the Data Acquisition Server to access meter data. Details are provided on setting static IP addresses, accessing device web interfaces, updating firmware, checking for errors, and enabling automatic data uploads. The related federal contract opportunity is for rehabilitating waterfront facilities at the US Coast Guard base in Cleveland Harbor, Ohio. Work includes constructing a new bulkhead, fender system, concrete cap, and utility shore ties for cutters. The project also involves repairing a floating pier, marine fuel distribution system, and bilge water tank, as well as site work like pavement patching and utility, lighting and striping improvements. The solicitation is available only to offerors who previously qualified under pool two, phase one of contract NMACC III.

AMI System Cellular Modem Reconnection

The Data Acquisition Server (DAS) is the computer that monitors and collects meter data. It needs an internet pipe, which is the cell modem.

1) Obtain stand‐alone laptop that can use an Ethernet cord. This will be needed to configure both the DAS and modem. This is just for set‐up and configuration of the DAS and modem.

2) Install cellular modem.

a. Connect stand‐alone laptop to modem with Ethernet cord. Ensure that there is an internet connection through the cellular modem.

b. Configure laptop to talk to Modem to confirm internet works.

i. Go to settings, then network and sharing center (Windows 10),

ii. Click on the Ethernet hyperlink.

iii. Within the Ethernet Status bock, click on properties.

iv. Click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click properties.

v. Click “Use the following IP address” Change your laptop IP Configuration to:

IP: 192.168.2.20 (IP address needs to be similar, but last digit must be different from the modem IP address) Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: leave blank Close out of Network and Sharing boxes to enable inputs.

c. Open internet browser (Google Chrome/Firefox) type in http://192.168.2.1

d. Ignore any safety warnings, proceed to connection. You will be prompted for your user name and password for the modem.

e. Ensure the “Enabled” button is checked on the cellular configuration page.

f. Open a new browser tab, surf the web for 5 minutes to confirm it all works. You may need to go back to your IPV4 settings, and change Gateway to 192.168.2.1. Now get to work.

g. If that doesn’t work, go to Network and Sharing center, back to “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”. Change gateway to 192.168.2.1 and DSN to 8.8.8.8 Close out of network and sharing. Repeat step f.

h. Physically mount modem in location where it has two or more cellular reception bars.

3) Connect stand‐along laptop (Windows 10) to DAS via Ethernet cord.

a. Go into DAS menu, disable DHCP, verify DAS IP address is 192.168.40.50

b. Reboot DAS

c. Configure laptop to talk to DAS

i. Go to settings, then network and sharing center,

ii. Click on the Ethernet hyperlink.

iii. Click on properties.

iv. Click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click properties.

v. Click “Use the following IP address” Change your laptop IP Configuration to:

IP: 192.168.40.40 (IP address needs to be similar, but last digit must be different from the DAS IP address) Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.40.1

d. Open an internet browser (Chrome/Firefox), and type in the DAS IP address

192.168.40.50. That should bring up the DAS log‐in page.

i. Default Username: admin

ii. Default Password: admin

e. You are connected to the DAS.

f. Change Default DAS Username/Password combination within Security tab, write it down, and e‐mail to LCDR Nicholas Woessner Nicholas.a.woessner@uscg.mil and the FE shop.

g. Check for updates, and tell the device to auto update. You may need to manually push firmware updates on Obvious AcquiSuite DAS, see Obvius e‐mail/secondary instructions.

You will need a RS485 pin connector to update firmware.

Updated all files, click “has disk”, select firmware file and manifest.

h. Then click on device list:

i. Looks for equipment errors. Modhoppers are the radio transceivers that pass meter information to the DAS.

i. Change upload channel ‐ Click on "Setup / Upload"

Once you are in the "Data Uploading" screen, take note of the Serial Number, usually this starts with

001EC

Change the "Scheduled Upload Time".

Recommended: changing to "Connect Every Log Cycle". This will allow the devices to upload every time they have a log file.

Set an additional upload Channel to upload the data to "Enabled.” I would leave Upload Channel #1 as BMO for now.

Protocol should be "Obvius AcquiSuite‐XML" Upload URL: https://upload.vitalityenergy.com/acq3/ Password: Blank (no input required) Selective Upload: Blank (no input required)

Click Apply at the bottom of the screen

After all settings have been applied, a new message will show up at the bottom of the screen stating "Upload settings have changed. Please Run Connection Test". Click on the link in the text.

You will be taken to a new screen labeled "Data Upload Diagnostics". Click on "Begin Test"

The device will then run diagnostics. It is important here that there is only green text on the screen and the upload channel says "upload channel is actually working".

Reboot DAS.

Within DAS system, go to networking, setup, & then enable DHCP

Reboot DAS. Plug in modem. Call Vitality, and verify that they see the DAS serial number.

The device configuration is now complete. You can exit this screen or go to any other applicable point inside the device. Tell LCDR Woessner or Yamil Hernandez that the DAS is sending information to Vitality; the DAS must be authorized to upload data on the Vitality website.
