1.0 BUILDING INFORMATION
Building #3 was originally constructed in 1929; renovations are evident throughout the building.
The interior floor finishes included carpet, floor tile, and concrete; the interior wall finishes included gypsum wallboard, plaster, concrete, and brick; and the interior ceiling finishes included ceiling tile, concrete, and plaster. The roofing system is a flat rubber-membrane roof;
the exterior of the structure is brick.
The piping systems were insulated; fiberglass insulation (without hard fittings) is located throughout the structure. Fireproofing was observed in the structure. HVAC systems located in the structure consisted of steam radiators.
2.0 ASBESTOS SURVEY INFORMATION
Building #3 was surveyed as part of a larger project for the VA. This report is part of “Volume 2” of a two volume series. This report includes building specific information only; please refer to the opening section of “Volume 2” for methodologies, definitions, and other pertinent supporting information.
A total of 26 samples were collected from suspect asbestos-containing materials (ACM) on October 13, 2008. Laboratory analysis results indicate 1 of these samples tested positive for asbestos.
2.1 Suspect Materials Identified and Sampled
Floor Tile Floor Tile Mastic Gypsum Wallboard Joint Compound Plaster- Skimcoat Plaster- Basecoat Ceiling Tile (multiple types) Fireproofing Carpet Mastic Adhesive (for baseboard) Encapsulant on Fiberglass Insulation Window Glazing (on door) Window Caulk Door Caulk Foundation Coating Tarpaper Flashing (multiple types)
The Asbestos Bulk Sample Results Table includes asbestos sampling data.
2.2 Asbestos Containing Materials
Mastic for 12” Light Green w/ Dark Green Floor Tile
The ACM Locations/ Friable Materials Assessments Table includes ACM locations data.
