About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding chemical treatment services for cooling towers at an Albany, New York VA medical center. The facilities include three cooling towers, one at 1000 tons and two at 750 tons each. Liquid bromine injection is used for biocide treatment, rather than bromine tablets as stated in the original scope of work. Documentation of past legionella testing by the previous contractor could not be found, indicating testing may not be currently performed. Clarification was provided on the cooling tower sizes which were previously listed incorrectly.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for chemical treatment services at the Albany VA medical center's boiler and chiller plants. Solicitation number 36C24223Q1082 has an opportunity type of solicitation and is being conducted by VA Networks 2 and 24.

Questions:

Q: Is the closed loop, chilled water using a pot feeder?

A: Yes, Pot feeder is used.

Q:There is a pot feeder for bromine tablets and liquid injection, SOW states tablets being used. Which is it, tablet or liquid?

A: Liquid injection to the 3 towers is being used.

( this last question prompts an SOW change also)

Q: Is the chilled water closed loop annually tested for legionella prevention A: I could not find documentation from the previous contractor (Barclave) to support correct information to be given for contractors proposal. (It appears that it not being currently tested)

In the answers, both the cooling towers are referenced as “12 tons” I am assuming they meant “120 tons” based on the make-up usage. Can you please clarify?

A: We have three cooling towers one is 1000 tons & the other two are 750 tons. I am so sorry for this mistake.
