RFI CLARIFICATIONS
COOLING TOWER REPLACEMENT
1. Drawings 5/M500 states CT cell basins to be connected by flumes. This is not available. Manufacturer as well as drawing M103 suggest equalizer line is to be used. No equalizer line is shown on drawing M-102, please indicate equalizer line sizing, material and indicate if any valves are required. Response: Flume is not necessary if equalizer line is being used. Equalizer line size is shown on the piping diagram on sheet m400
1. 8” Condenser Water Bypass indicated on flow diagram M400 is not shown on M102-M103 Piping drawings. Please indicate location for bypass. Control points list suggest this may be a 3 way control valve, please clarify and state whether this will be a full line size (24”) 3 way valve or an 8 inch 2-way modulating valve across the CWR & S main. Response: The condenser water bypass piping should be installed indoors in the mechanical room under the chiller project and connection points and location should be coordinated with the chiller plant drawings. Bypass line size should be 8” with two-way modulating valve.
1. Drawing 2/M103 Structural Steel for Tower already appears to be in conflict with 10” CWS branches from tower to main. Please review and advise if this would result in raising tower support steel height, or other method to avoid piping conflict. Response: There is no conflict with the structure.
1. Drawing 2/M103 indicates manual shut off valves for each cell on CWR and CWS and automatic control valve on CWR only. Flow diagram on drawing M400 CWR automated valve is shown and noted also, but it is not clear if there an automated control valve for the 10 inch CWS branch to each cell on that drawing and it is not shown on sheet M102 or M103 section. Response: There should be an automated control valve on the CWS pipe as well.
1. The flow diagram on Drawing M400 does not indicate 24” automated shut off valves shown on Drawing M102 please confirm these are to be included or can an automated valve schedule be generated similar to chiller replacement valve schedule. BAE Response: These are to be included as shown.
1. On drawing M400 flow diagram it appears as if manual shut off valves are located in the CWS and CWR mains between tower cells CT-1B and CT-1C and Tower Cells CT-2B and CT-2C. These valves do not appear in drawing M-102. Please advise if they are required. BAE Response: There is no shut-off valve in these location. Key note 3 calls it a drain hose.
Chiller Replacement Project
1. Please clarify valving for each chiller. Using drawing MP-101 and M-504 it appears that at each chiller it appears that on the CWS and CHR legs to each chiller there will be 1 manual shut off valve only, and on the CHS & CWR legs it appears there will be a manual shut off valve, followed by an automated valve, followed by another shut off valve on each leg. The flow diagram M-502 indicates only one manual shut off valve on each chiller leg and one automated valve for CHS and CWR. The detail 3/M-503 does not correspond to either of the previous described arrangements either. The valves are correctly indicated on drawing M502. Drawing M504 shows the same valving, although the relative position of the automated and manual valves are reversed.
1. What is the size of the existing pressure relief vent line we are to tie the 3 new chiller relief lines into? Please confirm a new wall penetration is not required for additional venting. The handling of the refrigerant vent lines is indicated on Drawing M503, Note 2. A new wall penetration is not required.
