RFI ANSWERS AND QUESTION

Q1. Fire Protection Specification: Is Schedule 10 pipe with roll grooves acceptable for use for pipes under 2-inch diameter?

A1. Provide the materials specified. After award, the contractor may submit a request for substitution with side by side comparison showing how the substituted material is equivalent to the specified material. The Architect/Engineer (A/E) and the VA will review the request for substitution. The non-specified material is considered NOT-approved until formal approval is given by the A/E and the VA Amendment No. 10 The following changes, additions, or deletions are hereby made a part of the Contract Documents for the above noted project, fully and completely as if the same were fully contained therein.

Specifications:

1. SECTION 10 21 23 CUBICLE CURTAIN TRACKS:

a. The section has been replaced in its entirety. Cubicle curtains have been added to this section.

2. SECTION 09 06 00 SCHEDULE OF FINISHES:

a. This section has been amended to identify finish revisions to the Sheet AE701 Temporary First floor plan and room finish schedule.

3. SECTION 11 73 00 Ceiling Mounted Patient Lift System:

a. This section has been added to the contract documents.

Drawings:

1. Sheet AD121, Second Floor Demolition Plan:

a. Add Demolition Plan General Note L to read as follows:

L. Existing second floor perimeter (exterior) 6-inch CMU wall to remain. Protect 6-inch CMU wall during demolition. Selective Demolition to be completed prior to main demolition as follows:

1. Break connection of existing partitions perpendicular to existing perimeter wall without damaging the existing CMU perimeter wall. Repair any damage to the perimeter wall that remains.

2. Break connection of existing hard (plaster) ceiling to existing perimeter wall without damaging the existing CMU perimeter wall. Repair any damage to the perimeter wall that remains.

3. Repair damage to existing perimeter wall caused by other demolition.

4. Repair damage to existing floor caused by demolition.

b. Add Demolition Plan Notes M to read as follows:

M. Existing plaster on interior face of perimeter 6-inch CMU wall shall remain, because it is believed that removal will damage the existing 6-inch CMU. Remove loose plaster. See AE501 partition type [GK] and repair plaster surface where flat surface is required for furring or provide shims for metal furring. At window heads and jambs repair plaster that remains.

c. Replace Note 13 to read as follows:

13. The existing opening at the 6-inch exterior CMU wall between Columns A-19 and A-21 may be used for construction access. This is a suggested temporary 2ND floor exterior wall opening for moving material in and out of the building, and the following are contractor responsibilities if the option is selected:

- At the 2ND floor near grid A-19.7 disassembly of the wall system includes the following:

o Contact the VA to photograph the removal at each layer (for backup information).

o Remove existing Trespa panels.

o Remove existing vertical Trespa aluminum sub-framing members. Select structurally acceptable cut locations.

o Remove existing 2-inch rigid insulation pieces.

o Remove existing horizontal Z-purlins screwed to Cold Formed Metal Framing (CFMF). Select structurally acceptable cut locations.

o Remove existing DensElement sheathing.

o Remove existing Rockwool batt insulation.

o Remove existing CFMF and bridging from 1’-4” Above Finished Floor (AFF) to 8’-0” AFF.

o Store existing exterior wall materials (including screws) for reinstallation.

- Provide a temporary lockable access-opening that protects the building from weather.

- OSHA and other safety regarding this access-opening is 100% contractor responsibility.

- Reassemble wall system when construction access is no longer required including the following:

o Fill the existing interior masonry opening with CFMF 6” x 1 5/8” x 16 gage at 16-inches on center (OC) with bridging 4-foot OC.

o Provide sheathing at each face of interior CFMF.

o Assume existing exterior CFMF removed is damaged and replace with CFMF 6” x 1 5/8” x 16 gage at 16-inches OC with bridging 4-foot OC.

o Reinstall existing Rockwool batt insulation.

o Assume existing DensElement is damaged and replace with DensElement plus Prosoco sealant at all joints and screws.

o Reinstall existing horizontal Z-purlins screwed to Cold Formed Metal Framing (CFMF).

o Reinstall existing 2-inch rigid insulation pieces.

o Reinstall existing vertical Trespa aluminum sub-framing members.

o Reinstall existing Trespa panels with 3/8-inch joint between panels.

- Contractor is responsible for replacing any damaged or lost exterior wall materials.

- Contractor shall warranty installation for 2-year period.

- Contractor is NOT responsible for any product warranty for existing products that are removed and reinstalled.

d. Change Demolition Plan Key Note 17 to read as follows:

17. Remove concrete block enclosure at steel columns. Repair damage to existing 6-inch CMU perimeter wall and finish plaster. Column plan details on AE504 and AE505 are typical, so use most similar detail if specific column is not drawn.

2. Sheet AE121, SECOND FLOOR OVERALL PLAN:

a. Add Architectural Plan Key Note 15 as follows:

15. Anchor top of existing exterior (perimeter) 6-inch Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) walls at 4’-0” on center, and design anchors to resist 150 pounds per foot laterally at the top of wall. Assume top of all existing perimeter walls require support at 4’-0” on center.

b. Add Floor Plan General Note [H] as follows:

H. All sections and details on drawings are typical, use similar details where no specific detail is drawn.

3. Sheets AE121.A, AE121.B and AE121.C, Second Floor Plan Area A, B and C:

a. See revised drawings where Partition Types have been located and labeled.

4. Sheet AE501:
