140R4021R0009 – Q&A Responses 3 August 2021 140R4021R0009 Clarification Questions (Round #2)
1. Table 33 11 10C, fails to reference Designations found in the Drawings: 24C100, 24G150, 24E150, 24D175, 24D375, 24D475, & 24HDD425. Please provide Equivalents for these designations.
Reclamation Response: Table 33 11 10C has been amended to include the missing pipe designations. The specification change is included in Amendment 0006.
2. Spec 09 96 20 – None of the listed Tabulations appear to apply to Buried Ductile Iron Pipe. Possibly applicable Tabulations: Tab. #5 is per AWWA C222 “Polyurethane Coatings for Steel Water Pipe” (Not applicable to DIP); Tab. #6, g: states “Interior and exterior of cast iron or ductile iron pipe and fittings (not mortar lined or polyurethane coated). (Example: Tees, Elbows, and Bends).” Since the DIP & Ftgs are Cement Lined per spec 33 11 13, this Tab appears inapplicable. Please clarify the required coating for Buried Ductile Iron Pipe.
Reclamation Response: Tab 6, Item 1.g of Specification 09 96 20 includes ductile iron pipe and fittings. The exterior is to be coated with high solid epoxy unless polyurethane coated. The interior is to be lined with high solid epoxy unless the interior is cement mortar lined.
3. Spec 33 11 13, 3.02, B, 1 states “Apply shrink sleeves in accordance 09 96 20.” However Heat shrink sleeves are not specified for Ductile Iron Pipe in 09 96 20. Will Heat Shrink Sleeves be required? If so please specify.
Reclamation Response: Heat shrink sleeves are not required for Ductile Iron Pipe since joints are push-on bell and spigot and not welded. Specification Section 33 11 13 has been amended to eliminate the requirement for heat shrink sleeves. The specification change is included in Amendment 0006.
4. Sheet 1695-D-60197 - Please provide the anticipated settlement magnitude for the dynamic joints outside of the McKinley Surge Tank. Reference General Note 16 Sheet 1695-D-60179.
Reclamation Response: Anticipated settlement for the McKinley Surge Tank should be close to zero based on the sandstone that is anticipated to be beneath the tank, and the pile foundation that will be designed for the tank foundation. However, the foundation design is the requirement of the tank subcontractor and their professional engineer.
5. Plan Sheet 60129 details the “OUTLETS”. These are shown as Fabricated steel tees. Could the tee on the Mainline be a Ductile Iron Tee? If so, could the “Unrestrained Couplings” connecting to the Line Pipe be eliminated?
Reclamation Response: The unrestrained couplings upstream and downstream of the tee are required because of potential differential settlement between the concrete thrust block and the pipe. If a ductile iron tee is used, a thrust block would still be required. The mainline unrestrained couplings could be eliminated if short segments of ductile iron pipe with flexible joints are used on each side of the thrust block if approved during the submittal process. The contractor would have to show that the articulation achieved by the original steel pipe design is also achieved by the ductile iron pipe design.
6. Plan Sheet 60129 details the “OUTLETS”. The small dia. components are all shown as Fabricated steel. Could these smaller dia. elements (tees, 90°s, spools) be Ductile Iron?
Reclamation Response: The small diameter turnout piping cannot be ductile iron pipe. Turn out piping is defined to be Metal Piping for Line Pipe Installations by Specification Section 33 11 10, Paragraph 1.02 D.2 Specification section 35 21 95. Metal Piping for Line Pipe Installations requires steel pipe.
7. Can it be assumed that ALL Flange Assemblies from 0-325 head feet are Class D, from 350-575 head feet are Class E, & higher than 600 head feet are Class F?
Reclamation Response: The assumptions presented are not accurate. The ratings for the AWWA flanges are defined by AWWA C207, Steel Pipe Flanges for Waterworks Service.
8. Specifications, Coatings, 09 96 20-29, Tabulation No. 9, Please confirm Tammoseal is acceptable as it is an industry standard for D110 Type III Tanks.
Reclamation Response: Product approval that meets or exceeds all performance requirements will be evaluated after award during the submittal process for specific materials and coatings.
9. Specifications, Design Requirements, 33 16 00-5, Please provide the overflow rate for the tank.
