About this file
This document package includes specifications and drawings for an interpretive exhibit at the Hoover Dam Visitor Center. The lighting design calls for various track lighting, downlights, edge lighting and accent lighting to illuminate exhibit cases, murals, artifacts and interactive elements throughout the space. Detailed drawings show lighting layouts and locations for each area, as well as specifications for the different lighting fixture types and control requirements. The associated federal contract opportunity is for interpretive exhibit fabrication and installation services for the Bureau of Reclamation at the Hoover Dam Visitor Center. The solicitation number and opportunity details are provided but no additional information is given on response dates, pricing terms or other contract requirements.

All wiring must be in a continuous run and daisy-chained. No “Tees” are permitted. Star wiring is only allowed in conjunction with an opto-splitter.
Cable shield may be grounded at one end only, at the control source.
Maximum cable length is 1,500 ft when used for DMX only. Maximum cable length for systems incorporating RDM is 1000 ft due to timing constraints.
Receiving devices have male connectors, transmitters have female (for XLR cable).
Wire must be Cat5e, Cat6, or Belden 9829, 9842 - specific installation and site parameters shall dictate performance for permanently installed cables. Electrical Engineer and or General Contractor shall flag any site conditions which may effect data signal integrity.
Suggested Wiring Practices:
- Do not run data signals next to or in the same conduit as high power sources. If necessary to be near these sources, cross them over at 90 degrees or keep as much parallel distance between them as possible.
- Use IDCs for all Category 5 cable applications.
- Run in grounded metal conduit when there may be concern from nearby high power devices and/or situations where the structure of the cable may be compromised.
- Plenum cable in plenum applications and also where physical damage may be a concern and conduit is not practical. Sheilded twisted pair (STP) Category wire is required when conduit is not practical.
- Cables should be protected against physical damage along their entire length and may include conduit, trunking, or raceways.
- Stranded cable is preferred.
The last DMX device on the line must be terminated with a termination switch or resistor with a value of 100 to 120 ohms between pins: Data+ and Data-.
RJ45 connectors may be used with Cat5e / Cat6 cable, for permanent wiring. RJ45 connectors and Cat5e / Cat6 cable should not be used to connect portable equipment.
Cat5e / Cat6: UTP cable may be used inside metal conduit. Use STP when installed outside of conduit.
Cat5e / Cat6: Wires 4 and 5 are commonly used in non-DMX equipment to carry power-over-Ethernet. Best practice for DMX only wiring installers is to cap and turn back this pair to avoid accidental damage to equipment.
Cat5e / Cat6: All RJ45 couplers shall be wired to Esta Standard T568B.
Cat5e / Cat6: Wires 7 and 8 shall both be connected even
