About this file
This document contains responses to late requests for information (RFIs) regarding solicitation number 140P2023R0022 for the SEMO 218940 project to develop an interpretive center at the Selma To Montgomery National Historic Trail in Selma, Alabama. The National Park Service responded to two RFIs. For the first question regarding alternatives to the specified 1-inch bituminous setting bed under the brick paving due to the small quantity needed, the response refers to Addendum 1 of the specifications dated June 6, 2023 which is attached to this amendment. For the second question about the missing door hardware schedule, the response also refers to Addendum 1 of the specifications dated June 6, 2023, which will include an updated specification section and may have cost implications, so proposers are advised to include an allowance for door hardware labor and materials in their proposals.

Solicitation # 140P2023R0022 Amendment 6, SEMO 218940 Historic
Properties at 2, 4, 5, 8, and 10 Broad Street and 1119 Water Avenue in
Selma, Alabama
Late Request for Information and NPS Responses June 6, 2023
1. Subs are having trouble finding a supplier for the bituminous setting bed under the brick paving.
The specification and drawings show a 1” bituminous setting bed. This material is asphaltic, with sand instead of gravel, as the aggregate, and like asphalt is delivered and placed while hot. The amount required is between 5 and 6 tons. Only 1.5 tons can be installed in a single day before it cools and is unworkable. The normal supplier in Birmingham said they cannot make a small batch but can only make it in 25 ton batch and could not transport it to Selma. There are two popular methods of installing brick paving. One is to install on a mortar setting bed of Portland and sand. The other is to install on a bed of limestone fines (8910), firmly packed. Are there are other options available other than the use a bituminous setting bed?
a. NPS Response: Refer to addendum no. 1 of the Specifications dated June 6, 2023, attached to this Amendment.
2. I did not see the door hardware schedule in an amendment as stated, “Hardware sets are in specification section 08 06 71. It looks like the set numbers in this spec do not match the schedule on A31 as numbered 1 through 11. An updated spec section will be issued by
Addendum.” When will the Addendum be issued and will it have cost implications? Should we include an allowance for the labor and material for the door hardware?
a. NPS Response: Refer to addendum no. 1 of the Specifications dated June 6, 2023, attached to this Amendment.
