Summary of Work - Polebridge Ranger Station Water System and Communications Project (GLAC-329234B)
This is a construction specification document for a federal infrastructure project at the Polebridge Ranger Station in Glacier National Park, Montana. The work involves constructing a new public water system including an infiltration gallery, water storage tank, water mains and service lines to serve four housing units and two administrative buildings. Additional components include installation of a programmable logic controller, pump control panel, pump protection system, tank monitoring system, and fiber optic lines to five buildings. The project is executed under a single prime contract with work performed primarily Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, with approval required for alternative schedules.
Key operational requirements include wildlife and natural resource protection protocols, vehicle cleaning/inspection prior to park entry, and restrictions on imported materials (which must be certified weed-free). The contractor must secure a Commercial Vehicle Non-Recreational Entrance Pass and bring generators for power, as no electrical service access is provided. Potable water costs $20.936 per 1,000 gallons; surface water may be drafted from Bowman Creek. Critical scheduling constraints mandate water service restoration to all buildings by April 18, 2027, with phased work restrictions aligned to seasonal operations: no restrictions October 17, 2026–April 18, 2027 and October 16, 2027–December 17, 2027; limited access May 7–October 16, 2027 during visitor season; and full road closure permitted between Ranger Station and Logging Creek during winter months. Substantial completion is required by December 17, 2027. The contractor bears responsibility for jobsite safety, security, utility marking coordination with Montana 811 (minimum five business days notice), archaeological protection, and waste management in bear-proof containers.
