About this file

This is a specifications document for a vandal-resistant actuations button component required under New Jersey's BC-BID-26-07 Traffic Signal Repair Parts contract, a 12-month cooperative procurement agreement. The document specifies technical requirements for a Full Dog III Series push button suitable for traffic signal cabinets, featuring ADA compliance and relay isolators. The button is pressure-activated with minimal moving parts, incorporates a piezo-driven solid-state switch, and produces an audible beep upon release. The component is designed to integrate with both electrochemical relay-based and solid-state pedestrian signal isolators commonly found in traffic signal equipment.

The button specifications establish detailed performance parameters including an aluminum powder-coated body with stainless steel button material, operating force of 5 pounds maximum, temperature range of -40°F to 140°F, operating voltage of 12V DC to 48V DC with typical surge protection, and minimum 20 million switch operations lifecycle. Additional technical requirements include maximum P-ON current of 200 milliamps with overcurrent protection, debounce time of 20 milliseconds, luminous intensity of 500 lux at one meter minimum with red color at typical viewing angles, audible beep volume of 85 decibels at one meter, and beep frequencies of 4 kilohertz on press and 2 kilohertz on release with 100-millisecond beep length. Terminal connections feature screws with washers and clamping plates for bare wire installation; crimp terminals are not recommended. The specification includes MTBF of 1,000,000 hours typical and warrants the component's suitability for traffic control applications.

Set-up & Operation

Autoscope Technology combines state-of-the-art advances in digital video, digital image signal processing, and EasyLink broadband communications to enhance performance. A standard CAT-5 cable connects the Autoscope system into a network to view video, collect traffic data, and maintain the system.

Autoscope products like Access Point use Internet-standard, IP-based addressing with a unique Ethernet MAC address.

Depending on the cabinet configuration, detector port communication to the TAP is conducted via a broadband link through the TIP to the Autoscope sensors or a standard RS-485 serial link to the Autoscope RackVision Terra MVP.

The ENCORE Access Point will interface detector outputs directly to NEMA TS1/TS2, Type 170/179, or 2070 ATC controllers. For central systems, traffic data can be quickly integrated into a proprietary database with the optional Autoscope Software Developer’s Kit (SDK). Optionally available is a C1Y cable for easy cabinet integration without re-wiring or modifications to the traffic cabinet detector rack.

When connected to Autoscope sensors and a TIP, the TAP converts streaming digital MPEG-4 video to standard NTSC or PAL analog video to view locally at the traffic cabinet. The toggle switch selects video output and the rotary switch selects which camera to view.

The 2 Wire Navigator’s preferred field wiring is to have a pair of wires (+ and –/ common) for each CCU2EN channel with from one to a maximum of four Push Button Stations per channel. Polara cannot guarantee a 2 wire system will work properly in all instances, especially if a single common to the buttons and signal lighting is shared. Each case will have to be tried and proven because it depends on the condition of the wires, splices, etc... In the event the 2 Wire system does not work, Polara will swap it out for a 4 Wire system as long as there is no damage to the units.

Terminal screws on each EN2 PBS include washers (clamping plates) intended for bare wire. Crimp Terminals are not recommended.

CCU2EN - EZCOMMUNICATOR CENTRAL CONTROL UNIT WITH ETHERNET

The CCU2EN is to be installed inside the Traffic Cabinet and is powered by the AC supply mains (115

VAC). The CCU2EN is the power supply and signaling interface between the existing intersection Traffic

Control Unit and Navigator Push Button Stations (PBS) which are located in the field. One CCU2EN can control up to 16 EN2 Push Button Stations, 4 maximum per channel. The CCU2EN controls up to four

Pedestrian Channels, receiving its timing from the Walk and Don’t Walk signals. Additional advanced configurations can be obtained by utilizing its general purpose inputs. All inputs and outputs have full optical isolation and include transient voltage protection.

The CCU2EN has two built-in conflict monitoring systems. The CCU2EN monitors the PBS and Ped-

Head lights and powers off the channel upon a conflict. Each processor monitors each other and resets the CCU2EN upon loss of internal communication.

The CCU2EN is backward compatible with older 2-Wire Navigator N2 PBSs (v1.12 or newer). There is an option switch on the back of the CCU2EN which specifies N2 or EN2. If all PBSs are EN2 PBSs, the

EN2 position is used. If any of the PBSs are older 2-Wire N2 PBSs then the N2 position must be used.

USB and Ethernet ports are available for a variety of configuration and remote monitoring functions using
